Job summary

Bentley Systems, a global leader in infrastructure software, is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join the Civil Engineering Applications team in Quebec City. Hybrid or in-office arrangement offered.

You will design, implement, test, and maintain software for Bentley's civil engineering portfolio, mentor junior engineers, and drive quality and innovation in a distributed, collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and C#.
  • Deep understanding of OO design principles, software architecture, and design patterns.
  • Experience designing and developing complex, production-quality software systems.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Software Developer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and evolution of Bentley's Civil Engineering software portfolio.

Core Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and maintain software components for Bentley's Civil Engineering applications.
  • Take ownership of features and functionality from design through delivery and ongoing support.
  • Collaborate with globally distributed engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions.
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions, helping drive technical decisions and best practices.
  • Develop clean, maintainable, and extensible code using modern software engineering principles.
  • Create and execute unit and integration tests to ensure product quality and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex technical issues and perform root-cause analysis of software defects.
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive, actionable feedback to peers.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, performance, developer productivity, and engineering processes.
  • Research, evaluate, and integrate emerging technologies and development practices where appropriate.
  • Collaborate effectively through Microsoft Teams, meetings, technical discussions, and cross-functional project activities.
Leadership & Mentorship
  • Serve as a technical leader within the team, helping guide design and implementation decisions.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate engineers by sharing knowledge, best practices, and development expertise.
  • Champion engineering excellence, software quality, and continuous learning across the organization.
  • Support Agile development processes, including sprint planning, estimation, retrospectives, and technical refinement sessions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and C#.
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented design principles, software architecture, and design patterns.
  • Experience designing and developing complex, production-quality software systems.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with distributed teams.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly and successfully apply them in production environments.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience developing desktop or engineering software applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Visual Studio, .NET Framework, and related Microsoft technologies.
  • Experience with JavaScript and/or TypeScript.
  • Familiarity with cloud-connected applications and service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience with automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern DevOps practices.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot and other developer productivity platforms.

  • Concevoir, développer, tester et maintenir des composantes logicielles pour les applications d’ingénierie civile de Bentley.
  • Assumer la responsabilité des fonctionnalités, de leur conception jusqu’à leur livraison et leur soutien continu.
  • Collaborer avec des équipes d’ingénierie réparties à l’échelle mondiale afin de livrer des solutions évolutives et de grande qualité.
  • Participer aux discussions d’architecture et de conception en contribuant aux décisions techniques et aux meilleures pratiques.
  • Développer un code propre, maintenable et extensible en appliquant les principes modernes de l’ingénierie logicielle.
  • Créer et exécuter des essais unitaires et d’intégration afin d’assurer la qualité et la fiabilité des produits.
  • Diagnostiquer des problèmes techniques complexes et effectuer des analyses des causes fondamentales des défauts logiciels.
  • Réaliser des revues de code et fournir une rétroaction constructive et applicable à ses collègues.
  • Contribuer aux initiatives d’amélioration continue liées à la qualité, à la performance, à la productivité des développeurs et aux processus d’ingénierie.
  • Effectuer des recherches, évaluer et intégrer de nouvelles technologies et pratiques de développement lorsque pertinent.
  • Collaborer efficacement au moyen de Microsoft Teams, de réunions, de discussions techniques et d’activités de projet multidisciplinaires.
Leadership et mentorat
  • Agir à titre de leader technique au sein de l’équipe et guider les décisions de conception et de mise en œuvre.
  • Encadrer les ingénieurs juniors et intermédiaires en partageant ses connaissances, les meilleures pratiques et son expertise en développement.
  • Promouvoir l’excellence en ingénierie, la qualité logicielle et l’apprentissage continu dans toute l’organisation.
  • Soutenir les processus de développement Agile, y compris la planification des sprints, l’estimation des efforts, les rétrospectives et les séances de raffinement technique.
Qualifications Requises
  • Baccalauréat ou maîtrise en informatique, en génie logiciel ou dans un domaine connexe.
  • Plus de 8 ans d’expérience professionnelle en développement logiciel.
  • Excellente maîtrise du C++ et du C#.
  • Solide compréhension des principes de conception orientée objet, de l’architecture logicielle et des modèles de conception (design patterns).
  • Expérience démontrée dans la conception et le développement de systèmes logiciels complexes de qualité production.
  • Excellentes compétences en débogage, en résolution de problèmes et en analyse.
  • Capacité à travailler de manière autonome tout en collaborant efficacement avec des équipes distribuées.
  • Excellentes aptitudes à la communication écrite et verbale.
  • Capacité démontrée à apprendre rapidement de nouvelles technologies et à les appliquer avec succès dans des environnements de production.
  • Attitude proactive axée sur les résultats et passion pour la livraison de logiciels de haute qualité.
Qualifications Souhaitées
  • Expérience dans le développement d’applications logicielles de bureau (desktop) ou de logiciels d’ingénierie.
  • Expérience avec Microsoft Visual Studio, le .NET Framework et les technologies Microsoft connexes.
  • Expérience avec JavaScript et/ou TypeScript.
  • Connaissance des applications connectées au nuage (cloud) et des architectures orientées services.
