We are seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking and results-driven Software build & integration engineer, who will work creating virtualized platforms over various identified hardware platforms, to deploy hardware agnostic grid innovation applications. Reporting to AI leader, the Software build & integration engineer will work in close collaboration with GA CTO office, Grid Beats and GA Core program managers and other GA functions.

This role will also be responsible to work with other functions across Grid Automation (GA) business to identify areas where the business can leverage virtualized systems to drive efficiency, increase customer satisfaction, and develop POCs to solve critical problems for our customers and build state-of-the-art models and deploy them on edge or cloud based systems.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• The Software build and integration engineer will responsible for:
• Plan, design, and implement virtualization/containerization solutions to meet business needs, including virtual machine deployment, networking, and storage configurations.
• Create and deploy Linux containers and VMs on various hardware platforms and hypervisors.
• Virtualization: Design, implement and optimize hypervisor components using KVM/QEMU, ESX, or similar platforms.
• Integrate virtualization stacks with Debian Linux kernels and Yocto-based images.
• Develop dashboards to capture the data from various runs of the applications to visualize, analyse and optimize
• Use programming skills, innovation and engineering to implement new ideas, develop tools and applications or improvise existing methods, tools, processes and features.
• Develop Virtual Protection, Automation & Control applications for IEC 61850 Digital Substations.
• Optimize C++ code for deterministic performance on edge-grade hardware.
• Design and execute automated test frameworks for AI/ML models validating latency, accuracy and robustness.
• Collaborate with data scientists to instrument telemetry and test harnesses.
• Develop and maintain automated test suites for RESTful APIs.
• Ensure reliability, performance, and security of services across integrated systems.
• Implement and maintain security policies and procedures for virtualized environments, including access control, encryption, and intrusion detection.
• Develop tools to measure various execution timings of various events in the system at the required granularity.
• Responsible to plan and complete assigned scope of work within in the required timelines.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams of product management, R&D, and other functions, to understand their needs and develop innovative solutions.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s/Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information technology (IT), electrical engineering, or electric power engineering, specifically in the computer and electric power engineering field with hands-on experience in data science.
• 10 years of industrial experience with software development and/or SW application integration
• Hands on experience with hypervisors such as EsXi, KVM, Xen ..etc, Windows & Linux Virtual Machines, Dockers and related tools
• Strong programming skills in C, Python, any scripting languages (PowerShell, PowerCLI, bash) on Windows & Linux.
• Awareness of Microservices architecture and tools.
• Strong root causing, trouble shooting and debugging skills using tools such as Wireshark, TCPDump and other Linux and Windows system tools.
• Passion for engineering with Strong technical aptitude and an analytic approach to trouble shooting and problem solving quickly and with the right tools
• Quick Learner and can develop a micro and macro understanding of the scope of work through self-learning and seeking out the right resources – virtual & people.
• Ability & rigor to clearly document and explain design, architecture, logic.
• Able to share ideas and work well in a team environment, proactive approach to tasks displaying initiative.
• Flexible and adaptable; open to change and modification of tasks, working in multi-tasking environment.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Prior experience in relevant areas of power systems & programming
• Understanding of Yocto and building custom Linux distributions.
• Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and deterministic scheduling.
• Understanding of TCP/IP communication stack and related communication protocols.
• Ability to administer, maintain, and troubleshoot Storage Area Networks (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) attached to VMware environments.
• Understanding of various Logging techniques for performance analysis on Linux
• Understanding of Industrial & Substation automation protocols such as Modbus, DNP3, IEC 60870, IEC 61850, etc.
• Understanding of equipment and tools such as secondary injection test kits, protocol analysers and simulators, MATLAB, LabVIEW, etc.

For US based candidates*

The base pay range for this position is $111,200.00 - $163,000.00 USD. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This role is also eligible for a 15% variable incentive bonus.
