Pay Range

This range is provided by Good Shepherd Hamilton & Toronto. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Base pay range: CA$26.59/hr - CA$30.83/hr

Hours of Work

The successful candidates must be available to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including both days and evenings.

Retention Bonus
  • $500 after six months of employment
  • $500 after 12 months
  • $1,000 after 18 months
About Us

Our Barton-Tiffany Emergency Shelter offers temporary accommodation for individuals and households facing barriers to traditional shelter or sustainable housing, including private units for residents and their pets.

Role Overview

We are seeking Senior Emergency Shelter Support Workers to support residents in this innovative environment. You will provide intensive, adaptive services to residents with complex barriers to housing stability.

Responsibilities
  • Support individuals, couples, and pets in a shelter setting.
  • Provide housing-focused case management based on Housing First principles.
  • Offer crisis intervention, advocacy, referral, and supportive counseling.
  • Maintain professionalism and excellent communication/documentation skills.
  • Apply knowledge of homelessness, trauma, mental health, substance use, and gender-based violence to provide respectful care.
  • Offer services grounded in harm reduction, trauma-informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive frameworks.
  • Assist with shelter operations, peer support, and staff training.
  • Follow health and safety regulations.
Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of experience in housing and homelessness services or relevant education.
  • Diploma or degree in social services or related field.
  • Strong crisis intervention skills and knowledge of mental health and addiction support.
  • Ability to work in a low-barrier, diverse environment, including outdoor settings and with pets.
  • Valid driver’s license is an asset.
  • Additional language skills are an asset.
