Lightfox Games is seeking a Server Engineer in Vancouver, hybrid with 50% in-person work. You will design and maintain backend systems for a mobile game and collaborate with gameplay engineers, designers, and producers to deliver scalable server features.

The role requires 5+ years of backend experience, strong Typescript skills, and knowledge of RESTful APIs, cloud stacks (GCP/Firebase), and databases. You will own features end-to-end in a fast-moving team and contribute to architecture

Qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with backend ownership on at least one shipped online or mobile title.
• Experience shipping online or mobile titles.
• Proficient in Typescript and at least one backend language (Go/Python/Rust).
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful or real-time APIs and understanding networking fundamentals.
• Familiarity with GCP and Firebase deployment, monitoring, and scaling.
• Understand the "Why" behind features and collaborate to improve speed and quality.
• Strong SQL/NoSQL databases and performance optimization.
• Experience using AI tools/LLMs to accelerate backend development.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable server-side systems powering core game features (player data, live ops, matchmaking, social).
• Collaborate with Gameplay Engineers, Designers, and Producers to implement and ship backend features.
• Own backend features end-to-end from design to testing, deployment and live support.
• Build reliable, observable, and scalable services with growth in mind.
• Contribute to backend architecture decisions and help establish engineering standards.
