Job summary

Cloudflare is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for the Security Rules team. You will work on Rust-based microservices, collaborating with security, network engineering, SRE, and product teams to build scalable, fault-tolerant systems for Cloudflare’s massive network.

You’ll take ownership of complex problems, mentor colleagues, and help shape architecture while operating in a fast-paced but sane environment. The role may require on-call duties outside regular hours.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of relevant professional experience
• Strong programming skills in Rust, Go, C++, or similar
• Experience leading complex technical projects from ambiguity through delivery
• Experience building and operating distributed systems
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, showing empathy and ownership
• Experience mentoring engineers and performing high-quality code reviews
• Experience with monitoring, alerting and debugging high-volume production systems
• Experience with databases including PostgreSQL, ClickHouse and Memcached

Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and maintain Cloudflare’s security-related software systems
• Lead technical design and execution for complex projects
• Collaborate with security, network engineering, SRE, and product management
• Raise the technical bar by reducing toil and guiding long-term direction
• Review peers’ work to ensure high-quality, maintainable code
• Mentor engineers and share technical context and feedback
• Work with Rust, Go, and databases, including Docker and Kubernetes
