Job Summary

A Brief Overview

This positions takes a lead role in planning and implementing enterprise software security access and authentication applications. This position provides monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management, and other high-level expertise on application security matters. This position also develops testing and evaluates new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality with existing application environments. This position directs, allocates and supervises the work of other staff. The schedule for this position requires the incumbent to work variable hours, including regular attendance at early morning meetings.

Job Description

What you will do

  • Takes a lead role on service delivery and application sustainment projects and is the key point of contact for technical issues.
  • Establishes well-defined security and compliance operations practices and provides monitoring, incident response, vulnerability management and other security and compliance related tasks.
  • Identifies, develops and implements information security and risk management solutions.
  • Provides technical expertise to create and maintain stable and efficient configurations, integrations and management.
  • Develops and supports processes and policies that will improve information security and compliance efforts.
  • Participates in incident response procedure as a subject matter expert.
  • Develops testing and performs evaluation/analysis of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality with existing application environments.
  • Anticipates challenges, investigates, and identifies innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or trending issues.
  • Directs, allocates, and supervises the work of other staff.
  • Creates and maintains thorough documentation for all service solutions, code, configurations and processes.
  • Manages the work ticket queue to ensure timely and appropriate actions.
  • Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 5 years of experience.
  • Experience in information systems security and management tools considered an asset (e.g., Endpoint Protection Management Tools, etc.).
  • Experience with Microsoft security and compliance tools (e.g. Microsoft 365 Defender, Purview) considered an asset.
  • Experience in SCCM Microsoft Intune and Virtual Desktop Infrastructure considered an asset (i.e., Azure).

Required Licenses And Certifications

  • Infosec security certification considered an asset.
  • Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Knowledge And Requirements

  • Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or significant work experience.
  • Provide expert advice, guidance and consultation on highly complex issues and/or the where outcome may be contentious.
  • Interaction with others requires highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively persuade, negotiate, counsel, and/or consult.
  • Adapt messages to meet the different needs of different audiences.
  • Manage own work, train and review the work of the team to see commitments through to completion.
  • Set work priorities and direction, supporting the unit and department in achieving goals and objectives.
  • Identify in advance when the intended results may not be achieved and develops a plan to address the gaps.
  • Lead team and project meetings and develop team/unit and departmental project plans.
  • Lead procedural or technological change within a unit or across broader university functions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
  • Anticipate complex challenges to ensure activities are completed on time.
  • Effectively leverage relevant data as input to making decisions.
  • Appropriately assess risks before making a decision.
  • Comprehensive understanding of what sexual violence, harassment and discrimination are, and their varying effects on diverse members of the community.
  • Question and take appropriate steps to address attitudes, macroaggressions and other behaviours which are discriminatory. Acknowledges and respects diverse cultural traditions, abilities and beliefs.
  • Assess the suitability of job candidates and recommend the most appropriate person for hire.
  • Evaluate employee performance and decide on appropriate training, coaching and development plans to assist employees in reaching career goals.
