Position Overview
As the Senior Sales Manager for Education Sales in North America, East, you will play a key role in growing education sales within the territory by increasing prospecting and sales activities. You will be responsible for generating revenue through both new and existing HTC (Host Training Centres) and LTCs (Licensed Training Centres), with a focus on Merrithew branded programming and products. Reporting to the Vice President, Education Sales, and managing an Account Manager and Coordinator, you will develop new education training partnerships, drive territorial sales, and manage relationships with education partners to ensure superior customer service.
The operational responsibilities of this role will include coordinating agreements and IT (Instructor Trainer) planning, while ensuring alignment with company objectives. Your role will be pivotal in maintaining strong client relationships and training as many Merrithew students as possible throughout North America (East).
Key Responsibilities
Sales Growth and Revenue Targets
- Maximize sales through business analysis, strategic planning, marketing, and execution to grow Merrithew education revenues through Training Centres.
- Develop and execute sales growth projections and strategic plans to meet business growth objectives.
- Meet annual education sales revenue targets and convert new Training Centres into long-term partners.
- Regularly review sales performance data, adjust strategies as needed, and implement corrective actions to ensure business growth objectives are consistently met.
- Lead communication with Training Centres, ensuring alignment between client needs and service offerings. Act as the primary point of contact for all Training Centre-related queries, requests, and strategic discussions, fostering strong relationships.
- Provide seamless customer service, guiding Education partners through processes, policies, and program offerings. Establish and nurture long-term partnerships with new Training Centres and facilitate their success.
Business Development and Market Expansion
- Identify and capitalize on growth opportunities, including increasing hosting frequencies, diversifying programs, and facilitating equipment sales through education.
- Analyze the market to identify key customer segments and prioritize high-potential prospects for education partnerships and sales.
- Continuously monitor competitor activity and trends within the education and fitness industries to inform sales strategies and identify opportunities for differentiation.
- Identify and enter new geographic markets within North America East, ensuring the successful launch and adoption of Merrithew branded education programs.
- Represent Merrithew at industry events, conferences, and trade shows, establishing and nurturing relationships with key decision-makers in the education and fitness sectors.
- Develop and deliver training for new and existing education partners on sales techniques, product knowledge, and customer service best practices to enhance overall partner performance.
- Create and execute a long-term growth strategy for key education partners, ensuring mutual success through program expansion and joint marketing efforts.
Team and People Management
- Manage direct reports and the Sales team, providing guidance for critical functions such as agreements, invoices, travel arrangements, order creation, IT briefs, exam processes, course materials, and student lists.
- Work closely with Instructor Trainers and other teams to assign instructors, ensure quality education delivery, and promote Merrithew education offerings.
- Oversee agreements, invoicing, and data management.
- Oversee course scheduling and market research amongst team members to drive sales and net new Education partners.
- Provide direction, strategic leadership, and prioritize goals and resources within the territory.
- Build and manage a high-performance team that drives business results, while managing company guidelines and expectations.
- Train new hires on company products, processes, and assigned accounts to ensure maximum team effectiveness and a positive level of engagement.
- Improve and maintain employee engagement, collaboration, and team effectiveness, ensuring the best working environment and a culture of coaching and feedback.
- Monitor staff performance and delegate tasks to ensure workloads are managed effectively.
- Set annual goals for direct reports and complete performance reviews.
- Manage vacation schedules, holiday phone coverage, and sick days for the team.
- Coordinate with the Vice-President, Education Sales, on setting goals, growth targets, and career development initiatives.
Operational Efficiency and Resource Management
- Participate in internal meetings to discuss sales performance, operational updates, client needs, and business development.
- Collaborate with marketing and commercial teams to support promotional initiatives aligned with territorial goals.
- Act as the main contact for Host Centres regarding Merrithew education offerings and career paths, resolving non-compliance issues and ensuring client satisfaction.
- Coordinate with the programming team to maintain strong client relationships and operational processes.
- Address inquiries from clients and internal teams with clear, accurate responses.
- Assist in improving departmental and cross-functional processes to support business growth.
Skills And Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience in business development and account management selling business solutions.
- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field; MBA is a plus.
- Previous experience as a sales or business development manager in North America.
- Strong prospecting and closing skills, proactive in winning deals.
- Ability to plan and deliver business proposals and presentations.
- Experience with customer interactions involving email selling, social media prospecting, trade shows, and account management.
- Results-driven, self-motivated, and persistent in achieving sales targets.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Active listening and a consultative approach to client needs.
- Highly organized with excellent time management skills.
- Flexible hours and willingness to travel for trade shows and client visits.
- Strong data analysis skills using Excel and CRM systems.
- Ability to lead a team and contribute to a collaborative environment.
