Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Senior Safety Design Software Architect to lead safety initiatives within the Autonomous Vehicles software safety team. You’ll guide runtime safety requirements, collaborate with GM systems and suppliers, and ensure alignment with system-level safety goals for software in AV stacks.

You will drive safety analyses across development phases, provide guidance on designs, and help verify that safety requirements are met, while adhering to GM processes and promoting

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years embedded systems development experience in safety-critical domains.
• Strong understanding of embedded software implementation and system-level view.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262 and other functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 62304, DO-178C).
• Experience across software lifecycle (requirements, design, coding, verification).
• Proficient in C/C++ embedded programming.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a team with global GM engineers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Conduct software safety analyses and define runtime safety requirements.
• Ensure safety requirements align with system-level safety requirements.
• Support software design, implementation, and testing to verify safety compliance.
• Ensure adherence to GM safety and software development processes.
• Escalate unresolved safety issues and verify resolution steps.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of safety and development processes.
• Interface with experts to stay current on safety methods and tools.
