Senior Safety Engineering Analyst

We are seeking to hire a Senior Safety Engineering Analyst for the Deterministic Safety Analysis department at AtkinsRéalis (Candu Energy). This team focuses on deterministic safety analysis (DSA) and probabilistic safety analysis (PSA) to support existing and new CANDU Nuclear Power Plants both domestically and internationally.

Location: Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

1. Plan, coordinate, and supervise engineering activities related to complex technical issues, applying extensive engineering principles. Review technical documents prepared by team members, and manage budgets, estimates, schedules, and work packages. Coordinate with other groups to establish interfaces.
2. Utilize advanced techniques and modify theories, precepts, guides, and practices within your field.
3. Modify established guides, develop new approaches, and draw conclusions from comparable situations.
4. Represent the section in meetings concerning problem resolution, planning, and coordination of work. May also represent the branch or department as delegated.
5. Review recommendations for soundness of judgment; modifications to standard designs and decisions are subject to management review.
6. Supervise, coordinate, and review the work of engineers and support staff; estimate and monitor schedules, and assign tasks to meet deadlines.
7. Provide input or recommendations to management regarding employee performance, training, discipline, and staffing decisions.

The ideal candidate:

• Engineering or science degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
• Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments is a strong asset.
• Broad knowledge of thermal-fluid sciences, including fluid flow, heat transfer, multi-phase flow, and thermodynamics.
• Experience with safety and licensing computer codes such as CATHENA, NUCIRC, GOTHIC, and MAAP.
• Proficiency in programming, especially FORTRAN, is desirable.
• Good knowledge of CANDU design, particularly the heat transport system and plant control, containment, and moderator systems, is an asset.
• Experience in licensing activities is also an asset.
• Willingness to travel occasionally for meetings and workshops.
