Working under limited supervision, the Sr. Risk Services Consultant contributes to Wawanesa’s goal of delivering meaningful loss prevention advice to Members, while gathering and reporting detailed field-level information on insured buildings, hazards, and operations. This is an outbound, Member-facing role, requiring regular field and overnight travel. The Risk Services field team aims to assist Members in preventing and minimizing insurable losses.
Job Responsibilities
- Arrange and conduct onsite risk assessment consultations with Wawanesa Members (policyholders) and prospects as assigned, following Risk Services Team Guidelines and maintaining performance standards.
- Complete detailed reports within the LC360 Inspection Management Platform, clearly identifying hazards and controls observed, and providing useful recommendations for loss prevention. Proficiency in the platform and attention to detail are essential.
- Measure buildings and prepare accurate replacement cost estimates for insurance to value appraisals.
- Create fire mapping diagrams and detailed floor plan sketches using company-supported software when necessary.
- As a Level 1 thermographer, conduct infrared surveys and analyze findings as part of risk consultations.
- Collaborate with your Supervisor, Underwriters, Brokers, and Members to support completed field surveys.
- Stay updated on the latest risk prevention techniques and trends through courses, seminars, and industry associations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in risk services, loss control, prevention, or related fields.
- Post-secondary education and/or industry-specific experience in loss control, engineering technology (fire protection, mechanical, electrical), trades, safety management, property management, building inspections, insurance, risk management, or occupational safety and health.
- Strong knowledge of building construction types, hazards, and fire protection systems.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, suitable for diverse audiences.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of detailed analysis and timely implementation of solutions.
- Effective planning and organizational skills.
- Willingness and ability to travel, with working conditions possibly including outdoor environments, environmental hazards, noise, dust, chemicals, animals/livestock, and working alone.
- Level I or Level II Infrared Thermography certification from a recognized training provider is preferred; training may be available.
- Completion of CIP, CRM, or equivalent Property and Casualty industry designation is an asset.
