Job summary

Wawanesa seeks a Sr. Risk Services Consultant to evaluate commercial, industrial, and agricultural operations, perform infrared thermography surveys, and provide practical loss prevention guidance to protect assets and support underwriting decisions.

Under limited supervision, you will collaborate with members, brokers, and underwriters across Canada, requiring bilingual communication in English and French. This head-office role offers a hybrid work model with travel to Eastern Ontario.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in insurance loss prevention, risk control, risk services, property inspections, safety consulting, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct on-site risk assessments of commercial, industrial, and agricultural operations to identify loss exposures and assess risk quality.
  • Evaluate fire, electrical, heating, mechanical, structural, liability, and business interruption exposures.
  • Perform infrared thermographic surveys and analyze findings to identify overheating equipment and hazards.
  • Develop practical, risk-based loss prevention recommendations to reduce losses.
  • Prepare clear reports documenting exposures, controls, recommendations and risk quality.
  • Support underwriting through risk selection, pricing, and portfolio management decisions.
  • Assess business continuity and operational resilience measures.

Work Environment: We offer a hybrid work environment that offers flexibility to our employees in balancing in-office (2 days per week OR 15 hours per week in a Wawanesa office) and remote work. Working Business Language : English. This role is considered a head-office role and will be required to communicate with internal and external stakeholders across Canada where the primary business language for this role is English. As such, the successful candidate must be fully proficient in English.

Salary: At Wawanesa, salary is only one component of a holistic, comprehensive and competitive offering that we provide to our employees. Job Overview

Working under limited supervision, the Sr. Risk Services Consultant evaluates commercial, industrial, and agricultural operations to identify loss exposures, assess risk quality, and support effective risk management. Through on-site inspections, infrared thermographic surveys, and technical risk assessments, the consultant provides practical recommendations that help prevent losses, improve operational resilience, and support underwriting decisions. The role works closely with members, brokers, and underwriters to reduce risk, protect assets, and enhance overall portfolio performance.

Job Responsibilities:

  • As assigned conduct on-site risk assessments of commercial, industrial, and agricultural operations to identify loss exposures and assess overall risk quality.
  • Evaluate fire, electrical, heating, mechanical, structural, liability, and business interruption exposures.
  • Perform infrared thermographic (thermal imaging) surveys and analyze findings to identify overheating electrical and mechanical equipment, potential fire hazards, and equipment failure risks.
  • Develop practical, risk-based loss prevention recommendations to reduce the frequency and severity of losses.
  • Complete aerial diagrams, access risk subjectivity and replacement cost estimates on company supported insurance to value appraisal platforms
  • Using LC 360 software tablet technology prepare clear, professional reports documenting exposures, controls, recommendations, and overall risk quality.
  • Support underwriting through risk selection, pricing, account retention, and portfolio management decisions.
  • Assess business continuity, emergency preparedness, and operational resilience measures.
  • Educate members, brokers, and underwriters on emerging risks, industry best practices, and risk improvement strategies.
  • Maintain technical expertise in applicable codes, standards, regulations, and industry-specific loss prevention practices.
  • Perform other duties, such as projects and presentations assigned.
Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in insurance loss prevention, risk control, risk services, property inspections, safety consulting, or a related field.
Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) is required.
  • Post-secondary education and/or relevant experience in insurance, risk management, engineering technology, occupational health and safety, building construction, trades, or property inspections.
  • Strong knowledge of building construction, fire protection, electrical and mechanical systems, and common property loss exposures.
  • Proven ability to identify, assess, and communicate property, liability, business interruption, and catastrophic loss exposures.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Eastern Ontario and work in varying environmental and agricultural conditions.
  • Level I Infrared Thermography Certification preferred; Level II certification considered an asset.
  • CIP, CRM, or equivalent Property & Casualty insurance designation considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
