As a Senior Risk Consultant, with our Mid-Market & Aviva Business division, you will support the Aviva Risk Management Solutions (ARMS) team and the property and casualty underwriting community by conducting surveys and completing risk engineering reports.

This role primarily involves field risk consulting with some account management responsibilities.

This position is home-based and offers flexibility, with regular travel to client premises within Ontario and occasionally nationwide.

What you’ll do

  1. Conduct property, casualty, product liability, contractor, and builder’s risk field surveys and prepare risk management and underwriting reports.
  2. Create technical property risk engineering reports and related documents based on field surveys.
  3. Manage account portfolios and provide risk consulting to support prevention and underwriting efforts.
  4. Offer technical guidance to underwriting teams and help resolve property risk deficiencies.
  5. Maintain high standards for risk engineering services, ensuring quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness.
  6. Collaborate with management, colleagues, and partners to develop and improve risk and insurance services.

What you’ll bring

  • University or college diploma/degree in a related technical field.
  • Ability to interpret sprinkler, fire pump, and suppression system plans, as well as hydraulic reviews.
  • Proficiency in reading architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical plans.
  • Competence in MS Office applications: Excel, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to navigate IT systems like Loss Control 360 and Claims Center.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and passport (or ability to obtain), with willingness to travel within Ontario (75%) and nationally (up to 25%).
  • 10+ years of experience in conducting property and casualty surveys of middle market risks.
  • Understanding of property and product liability risks in manufacturing, warehousing, and wholesale operations.
  • Knowledge of Canadian building and fire codes, NFPA standards, and recognized industry standards (e.g., Factory Mutual, GE Gaps Guidelines).
  • Understanding of Loss Scenario Engineering (MFL / PML / NLE).
  • Progress towards or possession of a professional risk management certification (CET, NICET, CFPS, CRM, CIP).
  • Experience with contractors and builder’s risk.
  • Ability to analyze business interruption and extra expense worksheets.
