Job description

Reporting to the VP, Agriculture Research and Development, the Research and Development Specialist will be responsible for executing all operational and technical aspects of research trials, including site selection, planning and designing experiments, and managing small plot activities.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Planning and preparing field trial layouts and maps, ensuring the timely availability of materials required for trials.
2. Performing field work such as planting, spraying, irrigating, scouting, harvesting, and grading research plots.
3. Assessing crop pests and diseases, and collecting soil and tissue samples.
4. Ensuring data collection adheres to established methodologies, with data processed and analyzed statistically.
5. Applying quality control procedures to ensure test result accuracy, and updating Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
6. Creating and managing schedules for daily, weekly, monthly, and annual activities to organize time and resources.
7. Developing and managing an annual operational activity plan, including forecasting personnel needs, managing costs, and purchasing materials and equipment.
8. Performing other duties as assigned.

Your Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will hold an advanced degree in a relevant field such as Agronomy, Plant Science, or related areas, with a proven track record in research. Demonstrated problem-solving, leadership, collaboration skills, and a willingness to learn are essential.

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Crop Science, Plant Genetics, or Agronomy is required.
• Relevant experience in Agronomy, Plant Science, or related fields is required.
• Experience working with potato crops is preferred.
• Ability and enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented research environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Attention to detail and eagerness to learn.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database management.
