Your Opportunity at ARC’TERYX:

As a Senior Materials Developer Veilance, you are a subject matter expert focused on our future natural materials. You are a team lead, and your expertise will enable you to serve as a guide for other team members and cross-functional partners to deliver operational excellence, while engaging in special projects with cross-functional teams. You will have the opportunity to develop best-in-class textiles that significantly impact the success of our Veilance collection and preferred material targets. You will learn alongside industry partners through hands-on experience. Your focus will be on building a high-performance toolbox of premium natural and synthetic textiles, with sharp on-time delivery, driving the Veilance product and brand forward.

This role is based out of our North Vancouver office and is open to hybrid remote work. Candidates must be eligible to work in Canada.

Meet Your Future Team:

The Raw Materials Development (RMD) Team commercializes seasonal performance textiles and trims that exceed industry standards. We create a toolbox in service to each product category, made of innovative materials that can become brand icons for many years. Our success stems from our knowledge, standards of excellence, and delivering on-time material solutions, alongside our supply chain partners.

If you were the Senior Materials Developer now, here are some core day-to-day activities:

  1. Concepting and developing future natural textiles of cotton, silk, linen, wool that create a competitive advantage in the luxury space for Veilance.
  2. Providing a point of view on material design attributes such as surface, hand, drape.
  3. Interfacing with Merchandising, Design to meet their creative vision and goals, and articulating opportunities and gaps within the toolbox.
  4. Sourcing and developing best-in-class materials from novelty fiber, yarn, and finishes in alignment with the Veilance materials roadmap.
  5. Communicating and providing materials expertise and commercialization timelines to cross-functional teams and partners across the business.
  6. Demonstrating an understanding of cross-functional roles and accountabilities including Design, Merchandising, Product Development, Wear Testing, RM Sourcing, and Color Ops.
  7. Mastering the business of our material toolbox to effectively drive decisions and problem-solve for cross-functional toolbox requests.
  8. Building knowledge and skills within the Raw Materials Development team, guiding on-time commercialization and market separation.
  9. Identifying and leveraging innovation opportunities for high-performance, durable, and technically feasible materials and manufacturing.
  10. Evaluating the technical capabilities of suppliers and collaborating with Raw Materials Sourcing to stage commercialization with mill partners.
  11. Working with sustainability teams to meet preferred material targets.
  12. Assessing risks and effectively communicating development status to leadership and senior leadership.
  13. Traveling to global tradeshows and mill partners to build key partnerships and explore newness.
  14. Testing and evaluating materials using Arc'teryx custom and industry-standard lab testing, including assisting with materials-specific end-use field testing programs.

Future projects may include:

  1. Pursuing material trademarks with brand partners.
  2. Evaluating development initiatives for performance and feasibility.
  3. Understanding business priorities to focus development efforts and contribute ideas beyond your category.
  4. Leading cross-functional stage-gate meetings confidently.
  5. Planning and leading RMD team meetings.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in apparel/equipment industry related to textiles and materials for luxury brands.
  • Degree or diploma in Materials Science, Textile Technology, Product or Textile Design, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Understanding of the RMD commercialization process and best practices for on-time delivery.
  • Thorough knowledge of trims and textile manufacturing processes.
  • In-depth knowledge of performance textiles such as knit, woven, waterproof breathable, and composites.
  • Previous materials laboratory testing experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and PLM systems.
  • Physical ability to handle fabric rolls and small boxes.
  • Ability to travel internationally.
  • Strong interpersonal, problem-solving, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and a passion for innovation and outdoor living.

Salary range: CAD $91,000 - CAD $114,000. Compensation includes base pay, bonus, and benefits.
