Our Toronto and Ottawa teams are seeking a Senior Rail Communications Systems Engineer with a background in electrical engineering, systems, and / or technology. You will work with a multidisciplinary team on the design and delivery of rail communication, IT, and security systems, supporting rail and ITC system engineers based in Toronto, especially on local and international rail infrastructure projects. You will provide support and advice on rail system and system engineering issues, with expertise in detailed system and architecture design, system modelling, safety system design and assessment, EMC, assurance, and RAMS.

Responsibilities

  • Produce rail communications systems design and consultancy for projects
  • Develop system architecture models
  • Understand Train Control Systems and their implementation environment (telecoms, signalling infrastructure, operations, testing, commissioning)
  • Experience in rail control systems implementation (development, design, testing, commissioning)
  • Produce and own system design calculations, specifications, drawings, plans, reports
  • Lead communication systems requirements and interface management documentation
  • Understanding of SCADA design and functionality (preferred)
  • Knowledge of Central Alarm Management Systems in Operations Control Centres (preferred)

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Good standing (P. Eng. or equivalent), Chartered Engineer status
  • Minimum 10 years in rail consulting and technology design
  • Understanding of infrastructure and construction challenges, system integration
  • Knowledge of EN standards
  • Strong interpersonal, planning, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and proactively
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, MicroStation
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with TTC Communication systems
  • Experience with Ontario Metrolinx LRT Transit projects
  • Knowledge of Engineering Safety Management (Yellow Book / ESM)
  • Experience in Operations and Maintenance (O&M)
  • Design experience with IT and Communication systems (structured cabling, networks, control systems)
  • Drawing preparation in AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit (support from juniors)
  • Experience with Public Private Procurement methodology
