Senior Radio Technician

The Senior Radio Technician is responsible for programming, installing, testing, troubleshooting, and repairing radio and satellite communications equipment at the radio shop & customer sites.
We are looking for individuals that take initiative and that want to grow with us through in house, on the job, and manufacturer directed training.

Install, maintain, and tune antenna multi-coupler systems, duplexers, and transmit combinersRF Testing of transceivers by means of watt meter, multimeter, antenna diagnostics, DTF, basic service monitor use, modulation, channel bandwidths and signal levelsNetwork cable testing, duplex operation, spectrum analysis, use of return loss bridgeRead and understand engineering drawings and documentsInstall, maintain, program, diagnose, and repair MOTOROLA, ICOM, and KENWOOD conventional and trunking mobile and portable radio systems and equipmentInstall and maintain various types of satellite systemsBDA installing and troubleshootingAdvanced Trunking (Kenwood Nexedge; Motorola Capacity Plus, Connect Plus, Capacity Max, SmartNet etc.)R56 GroundingDispatch Consoles (Wired and IP)Other duties as assignedQUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS
5+ years of experience with RF systemsDiploma in Electronics Engineering Technology or Wireless Systems Engineering Technology, or a Certificate as a Communication Technician is required, and a combination of relevant education and work experience will be consideredThe following certifications would be considered definite assets to the role : Electronics Technician Association, International (ETA-I) Associate Level Certification, Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Certificate, CET(a) or CET Journeyman (USMSS Canada)Strong experience with duplexers, combiners, and antenna sweepingExcellent understanding of networking requirements and wiring standards applicable to the telecommunications industryExperience with P25, Conventional, and Trunking systems is an asset.Strong interpersonal skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skillsWillingness and ability to teach, train, and mentor junior staff members.Ability to grasp new techniques and deal with rapidly changing events and prioritiesAbility to work safely in hazardous environmentsRequired Training
Valid Yukon Class 5 Operator’s License or equivalentRecent Driver’s Abstract will be required upon start date of employmentPre-Access testing will be required for access to client sitesPhysical Demands
Willingness to travel, including overnight stays in hotels and / or campsMust be able to spend most of the day sitting, walking, and / or standingMay be required to, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of timeMust be able to carry equipment up to 50lbsPlease note that candidates must be legally eligible to work in Canada for any employer, and this is an on-site role located in Whitehorse, Yukon.
