Qualifications

  • Educational background in construction technology, architecture, structural, or civil engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying or related registration with CIQS or RICS.
  • At least 10 years of relevant experience in consulting or contracting environments.
  • Proficiency with electronic measurement and estimating software such as On-Screen Takeoff, RIB CostX, or similar; familiarity with BIM is a plus.
  • Experience with calculation and application of allowances, contingencies, and escalation within cost plans.

Responsibilities

  • Preparing quantities and cost estimates during concept and schematic design stages.
  • Creating detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates from early design to tender and construction drawings.
  • Reviewing contract specifications and drawings for errors or ambiguities impacting estimates.
  • Preparing variance reports and supporting value engineering.
  • Conducting peer reviews of external estimates and budgets.
  • Supporting cost analysis for delay claims and change order requests.
  • Maintaining current construction cost data using market research and indices.

Salary range (in British Columbia): $124,800 to $171,600
