In the role of Senior Quantity Surveyor you will join an established cost consulting team based in Western Canada. Our team provides services for projects in all provinces across Canada in the Commercial, Industrial, Institutional, Governmental, Transportation and Infrastructure Buildings sectors.

What you can expect to do here:

  • Preparing quantities and cost estimates at concept and schematic design stages.
  • Preparing detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates from the early design development stages to tender and construction-ready architectural, structural, and civil works drawings and specifications.
  • Performing detailed review of contract specifications and drawings to identify errors, discrepancies and/or ambiguities which may impact estimate accuracy.
  • Preparing a quantity variance report at various stages of cost planning and for bid analysis when required.
  • Assisting in value engineering assignments.
  • Completing peer reviews of external estimates and budgets and making recommendations as to format and accuracy.
  • Supporting commercial and project management teams with cost analysis for delay claims and Change Order Requests.
  • Maintaining current construction cost information using a combination of historical costs, market research, and construction cost indices.

What you’ll bring to WSP:

  • Background education / qualifications in a construction technology, architectural, structural, or civil engineering field.
  • Bachelor’s degree in quantity surveying and /or registration and professional designation with a recognized organization such as the CIQS or RICS.
  • 10 years of relevant experience in a consulting firm and/or general contracting organization where substantial take-off and pricing from historic data or first-principles was required.
  • Must be computer literate and be comfortable with electronic measurement and estimate preparation using applications such as On-Screen Takeoff, RIB CostX, or equal. Familiarity with the extraction of quantities from BIM models is also required.
  • Must be experienced with calculation and application of General Conditions and General Requirements allowances, contingency, and escalation within cost plans and estimates.

Compensation

Salary range (in British Columbia): $124,800 to 171,600

The final salary awarded for this role may vary from the above range based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs. The salary range provided in this job posting may be subject to change for business purposes.
