Wissen Technology in Montreal, QC is seeking an experienced VP/AVP—Technology with strong Python, Kafka, and Unix/Linux background. You will design, build, and oversee scalable event-driven applications and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

The role emphasizes hands-on coding, REST APIs and microservices, and leadership in rapid delivery within a hybrid onsite schedule (3–4 days/wk). A graduate degree in CS or engineering is preferred.

We are looking for an experienced Python Developer with strong hands‑on expertise in Python, Apache Kafka, and Unix/Linux environments. The ideal candidate will develop and maintain scalable applications, build event‑driven solutions, and work closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable and high‑performance systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Python.
• Build and maintain Kafka‑based event‑driven applications, including producers and consumers.
• Work with Kafka topics, partitions, offsets, consumer groups, and message processing.
• Develop and integrate REST APIs and microservices.
• Work extensively in Unix/Linux environments for development, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Write and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation and operational tasks.
• Troubleshoot application, Kafka, and production issues and provide root‑cause analysis.
• Optimize application performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, QA, DevOps, and business teams.
• Participate in code reviews, unit testing, and Agile development processes.
• Follow best practices for coding, security, deployment, and production support.

Required Skills

• Strong experience with Python development.
• Hands‑on Apache Kafka experience is mandatory.
• Strong Unix/Linux experience is mandatory.
• Experience developing REST APIs and microservices.
• Strong understanding of object‑oriented programming and software development principles.
• Experience with SQL and relational databases.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD pipelines.
• Good understanding of distributed systems and asynchronous/event‑driven architecture.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• Knowledge of Docker/Kubernetes.
• Experience with Kafka Streams or Schema Registry.
• Exposure to NoSQL databases.
• Experience working in financial services or other high‑volume transactional environments.
