We’re looking for a Senior Purchaser to join our team and play a critical role in growing existing customer relationships, ensuring seamless service, and delivering value that strengthens long-term partnerships.

About the Role

The Senior Purchaser will be responsible for managing the procurement of direct goods and services necessary for our operations. This role involves regular contact with existing suppliers, analyzing product categories and sourcing markets, negotiating contracts, tracking deliveries, and monitoring long-term project progress. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in purchasing within the food processing industry and excellent analytical and communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Supplier Management:

  • Take ownership of and lead purchase category negotiations under the direction and leadership of the Strategic Procurement Manager
  • Analyze, formulate and recommend a supplier mix for each purchase category ensuring best value outcomes based on long term agreements
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure reliability, frequent transparent communication and monitor quality
  • Evaluate and develop suppliers’ performance by providing feedback, identifying areas of improvement and implementing lasting solutions

Procurement:

  • Develop and manage purchase contracts and purchase orders in accordance with company policies and Sales forecasts under the directions of the Strategic Procurement Manager.
  • Collect periodic and spot forecasts from Sales, assist Production in production scheduling.
  • Monitor and track orders to ensure timely delivery and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Collaborate and share delivery information with Logistics and in line with Production schedules and Sales expectations.

Cost Control:

  • Analyze market trends, product availability and pricing, build and utilize a reliable industry network and collect information to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Identify and drive cost saving and cost avoidance initiatives tailored to the respective purchase categories, the specific market situation and the Company’s goals
  • Regularly update offers in their respective purchase categories from approved suppliers and provide replacement cost inputs for Sales and Finance

Quality Assurance:

  • Ensure all procured goods meet the company's quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Logistics, Sales, Finance, Production and Quality Control, to align purchasing activities with company goals.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams and projects to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Procurement & Strategic Sourcing certification (CIPS, SCMP, CPSM)
  • Lean or Six Sigma certification
  • 4-7 years of experience in a purchasing role, preferably within the food processing industry.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Solid networking skills, critical and strategic thinking.
  • Proficiency in ERP software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and quality standards.
