Job summary

The City of Vernon is seeking a skilled Public Works Operator to operate heavy equipment for road, utility, and parks construction and maintenance. You will perform daily pre-trip inspections, complete maintenance tasks, and assist with emergency services as needed.

Requirements include 7+ years in municipal road equipment operation, a BC Class 3 licence with Air Brake endorsement, and experience with graders and excavators.

Qualifications

• Minimum 7 years experience operating road construction and maintenance equipment in a municipal environment.
• Experience using a grader for finished road construction in a municipal environment.
• Experience using an excavator for road construction and utility installation/repair in a municipal environment.
• Current BC Driver's Licence, Class 3.
• Endorsement 15 Air Brake Ticket.
• Field related equipment as assigned.
• Computer and related software, general office equipment.
• Combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Operates public works equipment and vehicles for road, utility, and parks construction and maintenance, and snow and ice control.
• Performs manual tasks in support of road, utility, and parks construction and maintenance, and snow and ice control.
• Performs daily maintenance checks on all equipment operated to ensure fluids and lubrication.
• Reports malfunctions and/or repair requirements on prescribed forms and completes pre-trip inspection forms.
• Washes and greases equipment as required.
• Participates in emergency services as required and may fill in for Public Works Foreman.
