Job description

Our client located in Etobicoke requires a Senior Accountant, Properties to join their team.This role is responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in real estate accounting, excellent analytical skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate assets (office, retail, and/or industrial).
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS.
  • Complete month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, revenue recognition, accruals, amortizations, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Manage service charge (CAM), property tax, and insurance reconciliations, ensuring accurate tenant recoveries and allocations.
  • Analyze variances and provide detailed commentary on property performance to internal stakeholders.
  • Partner with property managers, asset managers, and finance leadership to align financials with operational strategy.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledgers, sub-ledgers, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare budgets and forecasts for each property and support cash flow planning.
  • Assist with lease accounting and ensure proper interpretation and application of lease terms under IFRS 16.
  • Support external and internal audits, including preparation of audit workpapers and responses to auditor inquiries.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of property accounting experience.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience with Yardi is an asset.
