Job summary

Beedie is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to own full-cycle accounting for an income-property portfolio. You will manage reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting while collaborating with property management, leasing, accounting, finance and tax teams.

The role requires a recognized accounting designation and at least five years in real estate accounting, plus strong Yardi and MS Office skills to deliver timely, accurate financial reporting.

Qualifications

  • Completion of accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) and university level education.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in property management and full-cycle real estate accounting.
  • High level experience in Yardi and Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lease and tenant information in Yardi and process annual rent schedules.
  • Prepare operating cost reconciliations for tenants and respond to inquiries.
  • Review rent rolls, coordinate chargebacks, and calculate monthly management fees.
  • Support budget process and variance analysis reports; prepare internal financial reports.
  • Oversee general ledger, accruals, AR, AP, cash management, and intercompany activities.
  • Ensure timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end closes with consolidated working papers.
  • Collaborate with property management, leasing, accounting, finance and tax teams.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Property Accountant to take ownership of the full-cycle accounting and reporting for an assigned portfolio of income properties. This role includes managing reconciliations, working capital, budgeting, and forecasting. The successful candidate will collaborate with teams across property management, leasing, accounting, finance, and tax to provide consolidated information and ensure accurate financial reporting. Key Responsibilities
Property Management Accounting:
  • Maintain lease and tenant information in Yardi and process annual rent schedules
  • Prepare operating cost reconciliations for tenants and respond to tenant inquiries
  • Review and ensure accuracy of rent rolls
  • Coordinate chargebacks to tenants
  • Calculate monthly management fees
  • Support property budget process
  • Prepare budget variance analysis reports and report significant variances
  • Set up new properties, record fixed asset purchases and set up amortization schedules
  • Support asset valuation calculations
  • Work closely with the property management and leasing teams
Full Cycle Accounting:
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure consistency with GAAP, including accruals, amortization, and bad debts
  • Oversee AR, including reporting and assisting with collections
  • Monitor the AP cycle, including approving invoices and purchase orders
  • Ensure sources and uses of funds are appropriately monitored to meet working capital requirements in accordance with the budget; and maintain owner equity requirements including distributions and capital calls
  • Prepare requisitions for intercompany reimbursements and investor distributions
  • Meet monthly, quarterly, and year-end deadlines including preparation interim and year-end reports, trial balances, financial statements, and consolidated working papers
Other duties:
  • Support treasury team with property financings
  • Review employee expense reimbursement requests
  • Communicate key issues with management
  • Proactively problem solve and identify areas for improvement
  • Support and review Property Accountant deliverables
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned by management
Desired Skills and Experience
  • Completion of accounting designation (CMA, CGA, CA, CPA) and university level education
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in property management and a full-cycle real estate accounting environment
  • High level experience in computer skills including Yardi, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, SharePoint, Teams)
  • Strong attention to detail balanced with a curiosity and awareness of the bigger picture
  • Strong work ethic and sense of responsibility and confidentiality
  • Strong decision making, communication (both verbal and written), and analytical skills
  • Proven ability to work proactively both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Able to balance competing priorities and prioritize deliverables while keeping stakeholders informed of progress

$95,000 - $105,000 a year

The annual base pay range for this position will be based on the desired experience level for this role. Additionally, Beedie recognizes exceptional individual and team performance through our pay-for-performance bonus program.
