The primary duties of the Senior Project Manager, Transit include focus areas around project management, project delivery, people leadership, and business development. The role supports the growth and success of the transit market sector within the Transportation industry.

Responsibilities

Project areas for Delivery of Passenger Rail services encompasses a wide variety of projects for Railroads and transit agencies across Canada. In this role you will demonstrate a thorough understanding of design standards and preparing contracts for 30%, 60%, 90%, and final document submissions for mainline and shared tracks that meet both scope and client expectations, grade crossing safety assessments, conceptual design and operating plans, feasibility studies, rough order of magnitude estimates to support client budget planning, owner’s engineer reviews of designs and reports prepared by others, and contract administration to name a few.

  • Responsible for administering the design phase of the project from budgeting/schedule stage through procurement
  • Manage a multi-discipline design team to produce high quality design deliverables, meet schedules and stay within project budgets
  • Coordinate construction phase services for both design-build and design-bid-build projects
  • Providing oversight and being responsible for projects and programs and for the work of multiple teams.
  • Directing the Consultant Team which will include Project Management staff, Discipline Leads and all staff included to manage and deliver a Project as required to the satisfaction of the client.
  • Being responsible for the successful delivery of Projects, coordination of a Program's projects and management of their inter-dependencies, including oversight of risks and issues.
  • Applying thorough and consistent methodology/approach to project deliverables and quality of submissions
  • Building a strong working relationship with the client and ensuring project team continues to deliver high quality of work.
  • Verifying that submissions are prepared in accordance with professional practice guidelines and client design standards.
  • Ensuring all project deliverables are complete and compliant with the client’s quality requirements and checklists.
  • Managing day to day activities of the project team and the Subconsultants
  • Representing the Consultant team at meetings, presentations and addresses issues raised by the client.
  • Overseeing and assisting the client with their permit applications, property requirements and other approvals.
  • Responding to the client in a timely manner
  • Monitoring staffing needs and gaps in expertise required for advancement of a Program.
  • Mentoring project management and junior staff in a project.
  • Reporting on Program and projects’ performance to HDR’s senior management.
  • Managing project risks and mitigating those risks in a timely fashion to minimize impact to Program performance.
  • Incorporating lessons learned into a project.
  • Engaging in business development and proposal activities
Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional certification, PMP is an asset.
  • Candidate must have project management and design related experience on rail and transit projects.
  • Strengths in effective communication, listening, leadership and organization
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments
  • Experience working on TTC, Metrolinx and Translink projects
  • Command of Revit and AutoCAD, and knowledge of SketchUp
  • Client relationship skills and previous marketing experience for rail/transit clients and relationships with those clients will be beneficial.
  • Software experience including MS Project or Primavera P6, Microstation or AutoCad is an asset.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 10 years related experience
  • A minimum 5 years project management experience
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • MS Office and MS Project experience (Access experience would be a plus)
  • Demonstrated leadership, business development and strategic planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
