Partner - Construction, Engineering & Operations

Venor is proud to partner with Nova Scotia Power to hire a Senior Project Manager for the Eastern Clean Energy Initiative (ECEI), based in Halifax.

Reporting directly to the Project Director, the Senior Project Manager will lead a skilled team of professionals in the delivery of multiple synchronous condenser installations—critical projects that support power generation and ensure grid stability. You will oversee the full project lifecycle, from permitting and design through procurement, capital budget planning, construction, commissioning, testing, and final close-out. With a strong focus on delivering projects on time and on budget, you will ensure all work is carried out in full compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards, as well as regulatory requirements. This role offers the chance to contribute meaningfully to the reliability and resilience of the power grid while leading complex, technically sophisticated projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and be responsible for scheduling, execution of contracts, coordinating site preparation activities (NSP scope), forecasting and cost controls, project documentation management, procurement processes, environmental and safety management, project reporting, project commissioning, and close-out.
  • Coordinate with Procurement for the development of contracting strategies, detailed and comprehensive scopes of work for RFP(s), and evaluation of proposals to ensure the company achieves best value for customers while limiting the opportunity for change requests and claims.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with external stakeholders and contractors to review project progress against timelines, identify risks, and develop mitigation strategies as required.
  • Manage project progress and deliverables against the project timeline, decision gates, and budget.
  • Develop System Interconnection Requests and interface with System Planning on Facilities Studies/Interconnection Agreements to ensure timely planning and execution of the point of interconnection with the overall integrated project plan (including ECC activities).
  • Prepare progress reports, including construction status, any approved material changes, and updated projected project costs for internal stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain an up-to-date register of all potential project risks and initiate proactive risk management strategies with stakeholders as required.
  • Participate in the preparation of all documentation required for regulatory filing.
  • Support a culture of “Zero Accident Mindset.”
  • Provide direction and supervise direct-report project team members.
  • Lead the project team, including both dedicated resources and contributing members from across the organization.
  • Oversee team development, coaching, and performance evaluation.

Qualifications

As the ideal candidate, you will hold a degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering along with a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) designation and have a minimum of fifteen years of demonstrated experience successfully managing and delivering complex, large-scale infrastructure projects across multiple sites. A Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is considered an asset. This role requires a deep understanding of project management principles and processes, strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities, and excellent organizational skills to effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines. You must be skilled in stakeholder engagement and risk assessment and possess persuasive communication abilities along with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite is essential, and familiarity with SharePoint Online (SPOL) is an asset. The ability to quickly learn new software and adapt to evolving project needs is important. A valid driver’s license is required. This position involves long periods of desk work and computer use, as well as the ability to move safely over uneven and steep terrain in a variety of outdoor environments. Candidates must be capable of navigating cold, hot, wooded, or swampy conditions safely, reflecting the physically demanding aspects of site visits and fieldwork.

At Venor and Nova Scotia Power, we embrace a culture of belonging in the workplace.
