About the Capital Development & Facilities Management Department at Humber:
Capital Development & Facilities Management is responsible for new construction and renovation projects and provides project design, planning and space allocation services to improve and expand Humber's campus environment. We maintain all college buildings and grounds to pro vid e a safe, clean, h ealthy and well-maintained campus environment that supports well-being and promotes excellence in teaching and learning at Humber. We also lead the college’s sustainability programs through the Office of Sustainability.

About the Role:

Under the general direction of the Associate Director, Energy & Climate Change in the Capital Development & Facilities Management department, the Senior Project Manager, Mechanical & Electrical, is primarily responsible for the effective delivery of complex, often multi-million dollar and multi-year, mechanical and electrical infrastructure projects while minimizing disruption to college operations. Most of these projects will support Humber’s decarbonization efforts as the institution pushes towards its Net Zero in 2029 goal outlined in its Climate Action Plan.

A broad range of projects is expected, including:

  • Replacing end-of-life Central Plant equipment (boilers, chillers) with more efficient systems (e.g. heat pumps, heat recovery chillers, geothermal).
  • Extending heating and cooling networks to connect to buildings not currently supplied by central utility plants.
  • Converting CV Systems to VAV
  • Installing thermal storage systems to manage energy peaks and optimize load profiles.
  • Replacing/Retrofitting AHUs, replacing Energy Recovery Ventilators
  • Managing engineering feasibility studies for long-term strategic planning of heating and cooling assets
  • Installation of new building-level hot water to hot water heat exchangers
  • Optimizing the operation of existing heating, cooling and ventilation systems. Minimizing supply and return temperatures to support low carbon heating sources.
  • Building level modifications, which could include: building side piping modifications, upgrading AHU coils, local humidification, and domestic hot water (DHW) connections.
  • Installing low carbon energy sources to serve heating and cooling systems.
  • Implementing demand reduction strategies to leverage lower Global Adjustment costs.

The incumbent will manage all aspects of delivering these projects from Request for Proposal (RFP) development, design, tendering, construction, commissioning, deficiency completion, warranty reviews and post-construction operation optimization.

Education

  • The successful candidate will possess a 4-year degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • The successful candidate will also possess a P. Eng. designation and be licensed to practice in the Province of Ontario, or equivalent.
  • A certified Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is an asset

Experience/Skills

The successful candidate will have at least 9 years of experience in the following:

  • Experience with project management and construction projects with a mechanical focus;
  • Experience delivering large-scale construction projects, in traditional, construction management and/or design-build project delivery environment;
  • Experience in diverse mechanical building services projects, including air-based and hydronic systems, boilers, chillers, rooftop, HVAC, controls, and piping;
  • Design and construction site experience;
  • Experience with retrofits in existing, occupied buildings;
  • Experience with geo-exchange, heat pumps, and/or other alternate energy technologies;
  • Experience with designing or constructing central utility plants and/or central plant equipment;
  • Experience in district cooling or heating network design or construction;
  • Experience with commissioning;
  • Knowledge of financial, contractual and other administrative procedures;
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines and project-specific safety requirements;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • Well-organized, self-directed work habits with a demonstrated ability to prioritize and schedule tasks, managing multiple projects simultaneously in a dynamic environment;
  • Ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders with independence and professionalism.
