Job summary

Siemens Canada is seeking a BAU/BAS Senior Project Manager in Alberta to lead Building Automation and Construction projects, ensuring delivery on time and within budget. You will oversee onsite and offsite work, manage project plans, and liaise with sales and engineering teams to mitigate risks and optimize performance.

Key requirements include a B.Sc. in Engineering, PMP certification, and 5+ years in BAU/BAS within construction, with travel across the Edmonton/Red Deer area.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Building Automation (BAU) and BAS technology in construction.
  • 3–5 years operational experience in Project Management within BAU/Construction.

Responsibilities

  • Review contracts to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
  • Schedule installation, start-up, commissioning, turnover and warranty.
  • Direct and supervise project plans and ensure they are followed.
  • Maintain schedules and ensure alignment with contract documents and customer expectations.
  • Deliver revenue forecasting and report results to Branch Operations Manager.
  • Manage revenue and gross margin to meet monthly/annual plans.
  • Monitor status and control costs to maintain margins.
  • Oversee installation and retrofit work and personnel.
  • Determine resource needs and provide documentation.
  • Build and maintain an effective operations organization focused on customer and employee satisfaction.

What will you do?

As BAU/BAS Senior Project Manager, you will provide direction and supervision of Building Automation and Construction projects to ensure successful delivery. You will oversee project status, and work with other project managers. Your project management skills along with your building automation (BAU) and building automation systems (BAS) technology knowledge/experience, and financial acumen will be critical to your success in this role. Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations. Travel/visit within areas covered by the branch.

Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze the project contract in‑depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
  • Schedule installation, start‑up, commissioning, turnover and warranty.
  • Direct and supervise the development of project plans and ensure plans are followed.
  • Ensure schedules are maintained and projects proceed in accordance with contract documents and customer expectations.
  • Deliver project revenue forecasting and reporting results to Branch Operations Manager.
  • Manage revenue and gross margin to achieve monthly and annual business plans.
  • Monitor project status and control job costs to maintain margins.
  • Oversee supervision of all installation and retrofit work and personnel on assigned jobs.
  • Determine resource needs (e.g., staffing tools) and provide any corresponding documentation.
  • Build and maintain an effective operations organization committed to customer and employee satisfaction and profitable growth.
  • Provide technical and operational support for the sales teams including proper pricing and scope of work definition for project opportunities.
  • Communicate project information (e.g., equipment changes) to engineering operations and sales employees as needed to minimize cost and delay throughout the estimating bidding and operations phases of each project.
  • Act as the main point of customer contact for the project delivery and issue mitigation.
  • Foster strong customer relationships and ensure a positive project experience.
  • Communicate project updates and changes to customers and internal stakeholders.
Location

Primarily supporting projects in the Edmonton / Red Deer, Alberta area.

What will you need to succeed?
Education
  • B.Sc. in Engineering or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience.
Experience
  • 5+ years of experience in Building Automation (BAU) and Building Automation Systems (BAS) technology preferably within the construction industry.
  • 3–5 years operational experience in Project Management and/or Project Development within the Building Automation and/or Construction industry.
Certification(s)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Technical Knowledge & Skills
  • Strong knowledge of building electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Knowledge of CAN/ULC standards and Canadian Building and Electrical Codes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Project or equivalent project management software.
  • Financial acumen including costing, budgeting, forecasting, and project financial management.
Core Competencies
  • Strong communication written and verbal communication skills in English; strong presentation skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, consultants, customers, and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong planning, organizational, and stakeholder management skills.
Additional Requirements
  • A valid and unrestricted G/Class 5 driver’s licence is required to participate in the Siemens Fleet Program for travel to customer sites within assigned region(s).
  • Ability to travel to customer sites within the assigned region(s).
Asset(s)
  • Previous experience as a Field Technician or Electrician in the Building Automation domain.
  • Professional designations such as P.Eng., LEED, CEM, CFAA, Construction Professional (CP) or other relevant industry certifications.
Note

This is not an IT project management role or general project management role. This is a specialized role requiring expertise in Building Automation / Building Automation Systems, Building codes, electrical / mechanical is essential to service our commercial clients.
