Working for VIA Rail is being a part of a collective effort in sustainable mobility.

As a Senior Project Manager, you will work on both small and large-scale multiyear projects (ranging from $100k to over $100M), including the design and construction of maintenance centers. You will be involved in all project phases, from conception through to implementation and commissioning. You will be responsible for implementing projects within a matrix organizational structure, adhering to company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities :

Construction process :

  • Conduct and coordinate design reviews, compliance reviews, site reviews, and quality audits;
  • Monitor submitted testing and quality records of work on site, manage resolution of deficiencies, and facilitate final handovers to project stakeholders;
  • Conduct detailed quality audits on-site, identify non-compliance issues, and work with contractors to develop corrective actions.

Safety :

  • Monitor all worksite activities for compliance with contractual, safety, and environmental requirements;
  • Carry out investigations for property damage, accidents, or delays, and manage resolution steps.

Project Management :

  • Determine and monitor project scope, budgets, deadlines, dependencies, risks, and issues;
  • Schedule monitoring, reporting, and coordinate corrective actions for delays;
  • Report on key performance indicators and attend follow-up meetings;
  • Plan, organize, execute, and evaluate capital projects ensuring scope, schedule, budget, and performance standards are met;
  • Coordinate with stakeholders.

Note : The percentage of time allocated to each task will vary depending on project needs and conditions.

Requirements :

  • Degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Building Sciences, Engineering, Business Administration, or an acceptable combination of education, training, and experience;
  • 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in rail transit or rail facility infrastructure;
  • Ability to travel occasionally across Canada, mainly Montreal, and work interprovincially;
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently;
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision;
  • Excellent command of English; proficiency in French is a valuable asset.

  • Experience in construction environments and quality assurance;
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and contractual requirements;
  • Ability to maintain harmonious stakeholder relationships;
  • Collaborative work with railway, utility, municipal, and provincial authorities;
  • Leadership in communicating project objectives and guiding teams;
  • Supervisory and coordination skills;
  • Technical knowledge to review plans, reports, and quotes;
  • Understanding of construction contract administration.
