Marine Atlantic seeks a Senior Project Manager (Term) to lead large, multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects from North Sydney, NS. The role involves planning, executing, monitoring, and closing projects within approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality, while guiding cross-functional teams and upholding governance and safety standards.

You will manage risks, lead stakeholders, and drive project success across concurrent initiatives in a dynamic, regulated environment.

Qualifications

  • University degree or college diploma in relevant field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years in a related senior project leadership role; total experience ≥10 years.
  • Combination of equivalent education, job-related training, and experience accepted.
  • Experience leading large-scale, multi-disciplinary programs >$100M.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead planning and delivery of projects within scope, schedule, budget and quality.
  • Oversee risk/issue management and ensure resolution through closure.

  • Support resource procurement and management (consultants, contractors, vendors).

Marine Atlantic is currently looking for a Senior Project Manager (Term) to work with our Operations Programs department, located in North Sydney, NS. Reporting to the Operations Program Manager, the Senior Project Manager is responsible for the successful delivery of Corporations recently announced major infrastructure projects within approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements. Following completion of pre-project activities, including executive approval, this position assumes accountability for planning, executing, monitoring, and closing assigned projects. The Senior Project Manager leads cross-functional project teams, both internal and external, and is responsible for defining and managing project deliverables, assigning, and monitoring project tasks, and ensuring project team members understand their roles and accountabilities. The position proactively identifies and manages project risks, issues, dependencies, and changes, ensuring appropriate mitigation and escalation where required. The position provides strategic leadership across multiple concurrent initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives, operational priorities, governance requirements, and long-term asset management strategies.

Additional Key Areas Of Responsibility
  • Leads the planning and delivery of assigned projects, ensuring alignment with approved scope, schedule, budget, quality, and organizational objectives.
  • Oversees project risk and issue management, proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and escalating risks and issues as appropriate, and ensuring resolution through to closure.
  • Provides project leadership and communication across all levels of the organization, including executive, senior leadership, project sponsors, stakeholders, contractors, consultants, and project team members.
  • Supports the identification, procurement, and management of project resources, including consultants, contractors, vendors, equipment, hardware, software, and other resources required for successful project delivery.
  • Maintains accountability for project financial management, including budget development, forecasting, expenditure tracking, variance analysis, change management, and financial reporting.
  • Assists in the development and management of comprehensive project plans, including scope, schedule, milestones, resources, dependencies, risks, deliverables, and key decision points.
  • Applies recognized project management principles, methodologies, and best practices, exercising sound judgment, ethical decision-making, and appropriate project governance throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Manages project change management.
  • Leads the development and presentation of Operations-related initiatives, proposals, business cases, and potential service enhancements to stakeholders and decision-makers at all levels of the organization.
  • Promotes a strong safety culture throughout project delivery.
  • Provides leadership and direction to multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Manages project dependencies and interfaces with other projects, programs, operational activities, maintenance programs, and organizational initiatives to minimize conflicts and optimize delivery.
  • Ensures project governance requirements are established and maintained.
  • Provides recommendations and makes project-level decisions within delegated authority.
  • Assists in the accomplishment of company objectives by performing other related duties as required.
Qualifications

Education/Certification and Experience

  • University Degree or College Diploma in relevant field.
  • Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience in a related senior project leadership role, minimum ten (10) years of total experience in relevant role.

OR

  • a combination of equivalent education, job-related training, and experience in a related position.
Knowledge Skills And Experience (Essential)
  • Experience leading large-scale, complex, multi-disciplinary capital or operational programs with cumulative values exceeding $100 million.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multiple concurrent projects and/or portfolios within highly regulated operating environments.
  • Advanced organization, prioritization, and time-management skills.
  • Highly developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direction and leadership to project team members.
  • Strong negotiation, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Advanced project management and financial management skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental assessment and permitting requirements and their implications for project scope, schedule, cost, and risk.
  • Advanced knowledge of project integration and dependency management.
  • Strong business analysis and process improvement skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of change management principles and practices.
  • Strong team building and collaboration skills.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, practices, and tools.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
  • Knowledge of procurement practices and processes within a government agency environment.
  • Knowledge of contract management and administration practices.
  • Knowledge of capital project delivery practices.
Knowledge Skills And Experience (Desirable)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) would be considered an asset.
  • Background in civil or environmental engineering would be considered an asset.
