Job description

Responsibilities:

  1. Lead cross-functional project teams to deliver business critical projects by applying Waterfall, Agile, and/or Hybrid delivery methodology depending on the nature of the project to maximize the outcome.
  2. Drive decisions regarding project priorities/business requirements to manage project scope, budget, resources, and delivery risks.
  3. Ensure quality of deliverables and compliance with internal procedures and policies.
  4. Build and maintain working relationships with IT and business stakeholders for project control.
  5. Manage a team of Project Managers/Senior Project Managers and support them with meeting their project delivery goals and perform people manager responsibilities.
  6. Manage dependencies within program streams and between projects with complex dependencies.
  7. Manage project deadlines, breakdown tasks, set targets, and push the team to ensure timeliness.
  8. Provide feedback, advice, guidance, and encouragement to the team members.
  9. Host regular project meetings with the team to closely monitor progress and report status updates to management.
  10. Proactively recognize warning signs, raise risks and issues in a timely manner, develop risk mitigation plans to resolve risks and issues.
  11. Communicate with the team frequently to update them about project progress and status updates.
  12. Take ownership of the project budget, scope, timeline and effectively manage baseline change control.
  13. Prepare project status reports of the assigned value stream on a weekly basis to update the management team and seek assistance when required.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. 10 or more years experience managing business critical projects end to end (experience across PMLC and SDLC).
  2. Past experience leading large programs with multiple projects with strong leadership in strategy, implementation, and delegation.
  3. 5 or more years in the insurance industry (Life preferred).
  4. Past experience specifically managing large scale cross-functional teams, offshore delivery vendors.
  5. Past experience working in both Waterfall and Agile delivery environment in the insurance industry.
  6. Experience in delivering projects under a regulatory environment in the financial services industry.
  7. Demonstrate excellent leadership, diplomatic and motivational skills to lead cross-functional teams and coach/advice peers and staff.
  8. Strong planning and organization skills with the ability to adapt to changes or unforeseen circumstances and manage budgets and resource capacity.
  9. Strong team building and motivational skills to resolve conflicts and focus on the delivery outcome.
  10. Experienced in hiring and building effective project teams.
  11. Excellent time management skills, goal setting, and follow-up.
  12. Thorough understanding of insurance products and insurance operations.
  13. Team player, self-motivated, confident, and results-driven.
  14. Proficient in project management tools, templates, and project life cycle.
  15. Bilingual in English (speak/read/write) and Japanese (speak/read/write).
  16. Bachelor's degree in business administration or related field preferred.
  17. Bachelor's degree or certificate in computer science, software engineering.
  18. Project Management certification strongly preferred (PMP, Prince2).
  19. Understanding of Agile and DevOps practices as applied to project management.
