Senior Project Engineer

Position Summary

Undertake and coordinate project control activities, on-site engineering, and procurement functions to ensure the project is completed safely, meets design criteria, specifications, and is within time and cost constraints to achieve profit and commercial objectives.

What does this role involve?

1. Liaise with other business units in design reviews, constructability reviews, resource/cost forecasts, and provide feedback and recommendations on process improvements.
2. Coordinate and administer construction activities to ensure projects are executed according to plans, designs, and specifications.
3. Interpret designs for project implementation.
4. Contribute to constructability improvements.
5. Arrange and oversee the letting of supply or works contracts.
6. Provide cost control and forecasting support for designated JDE cost codes and contract packages.
7. Monitor project progress and report to the Director, Projects or Project Manager.
8. Coordinate plant design deliverables and interface with procurement or construction teams.
9. Assist in preparing project schedules.
10. Ensure contract work packages meet standards set by the client and company.
11. Issue contracts/purchase orders timely and ensure compliance.
12. Manage scope and specification variations.
13. Review vendor documents for approval promptly.
14. Maintain organized project files and records.
15. Refer major problems to the Project Manager or relevant manager.
16. Attend site visits as required.
17. Manage technical queries and assist in their resolution.
18. Review work for accuracy and standards adherence.
19. Assist in resolving technical issues from subcontractors.
20. Ensure subcontractor work is delivered safely, on schedule, and meets technical requirements.
21. Manage subcontractor payments per contract conditions.
22. Participate in quality management system improvements.
23. Develop and review ITPs and checksheets for quality compliance.

Manage vendor, fabrication, and subcontractor non-conformance reports during construction and completion phases.

About You

You will be self-motivated, well-organized, capable of managing multiple fronts, and innovative in problem-solving.

Qualifications

• Tertiary education in engineering or construction.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Minimum 8 years project experience, with 2-3 years site experience in heavy industrial or mineral processing projects.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project or Primavera P6.

Desired Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

• Experience in mining industry construction.
• Knowledge in cost control, planning, JDE, and design activities.
• Contracts administration experience.

Salary range in BC: 175,000 - 225,000. The offered salary will consider education, experience, skills, location, and market conditions at hire.
