Job summary

Cenovus Energy is seeking a Senior Project Engineer/Technologist to lead a portfolio of HMGP projects in a dynamic oils and gas environment. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Diploma in Technology; licensed P.ENG with APEGA and APEGS, or Registered Professional Technologist with ASET.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience.
  • Experience providing technical support and design input for operations and maintenance teams in an industrial setting, preferably oil pipelines and facilities.
  • Familiarity with oil and gas engineering standards and provincial regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a portfolio of projects from execution through closure; support initiation and planning with operations and engineering.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, and execution plans.
  • Evaluate equipment and facility alterations under MOC and codes.
  • Lead process hazard analyses and maintain critical project documentation for safe execution.
  • Promote COIMS adherence; support field engagements and continuous improvement.
  • Travel to HMGP field sites as required for scoping and coordination.

About this opportunity:

Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, the Senior Project Engineer / Technologist role is an opportunity to lead meaningful project work within the midstream business. You will independently manage a portfolio of HMGP projects, partnering with cross-functional teams to move priorities from concept through execution and closure. This role is well suited for a collaborative, technically strong project leader who enjoys solving complex facility challenges, influencing outcomes, and delivering safe, reliable results in a dynamic operating environment.

Work Environment
  • This position is located in Lloydminster and requires the successful candidate to live in the area.
What you’ll do:
  • Lead a portfolio of projects from execution through closure, while supporting Initiation and Planning activities with operations and engineering. Provide technical review of project cost, schedule, and execution plans for projects across HMGP.
  • Support budget development and long-range planning by ensuring projects are well defined, appropriately prioritized, and aligned with business needs. Manage monthly and quarterly forecasting, cost tracking, and reporting to keep the leadership team informed.
  • Develop engineering work packages for assigned projects, including scopes of work, technical specifications, drawings, construction packages, and approval-ready documentation required for execution.
  • Evaluate proposed equipment and facility alterations in accordance with the Management of Change (MOC) process, applicable engineering standards, and existing facility requirements.
  • Participate in process hazard analyses and develop, maintain, or update critical project documentation to support safe and compliant project execution.
  • Support and lead the development of project management processes within the business unit, promoting technical excellence, knowledge sharing, and alignment with industry best practices and PMI principles.
  • Promote a safe work environment and continuous improvement through adherence to the Cenovus Operations Integrity Management System (COIMS). Lead and participate in field engagements to verify COIMS adherence.
  • Travel to HMGP field sites as required to support project scoping, field verification, execution coordination, and stakeholder engagement.
Who you are:

Our ideal candidate will have the following minimum requirements:

  • Legally authorized to work in Canada.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Diploma in Technology.
  • Licensed P.ENG with APEGA and APEGS, or Registered Professional Technologist with ASET.
  • Minimum of 8 years relevant industry experience.
  • Strong project management and design skills.
  • Experience providing technical support and design input for operations and maintenance teams in an industrial setting, preferably related to oil pipelines and facilities.
  • Familiarity with engineering standards relevant to the oil and gas industry, including ASME B31.3, API 650 / 653, CSA Z662.
  • Familiarity with federal and provincial regulations pertaining to oil and gas facilities.

As this position has been identified as safety sensitive, employment of a final candidate selected for this position will be conditional upon successful completion of required pre-employment medical and alcohol/drug assessments.
