Job summary

Tetra Tech in Mississauga, Ontario, is seeking a Senior Project Controller to join our Power team. This role focuses on cost control, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting for complex projects.

The position requires a university degree and 10+ years in project controls, with advanced skills in MS Project, Primavera P6, Excel, and related tools. You will collaborate with engineering, procurement, planning, and finance teams to drive project success.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Finance, Mathematics, Accounting, Engineering, or related discipline or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in project controls or cost control within engineering/construction environments.
  • Experience leading cost control, forecasting, reporting and change management on complex projects.
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Project, Primavera P6, MS Access, Excel and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of computerized project management, cost control and financial reporting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills with ability to influence decisions.
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, procurement, planning and finance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development and maintenance of project controls processes for scope, schedule, estimate, procurement and contracting alignment.
  • Establish project coding structures with estimating/planning teams and convert estimates into the control budget.
  • Manage project data in the cost control database ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Develop engineering progress measurement formats with Engineering Leads and maintain progress tracking.
  • Administer project change control procedures and incorporate changes into forecasts and reporting.
  • Consolidate commitments, actual costs, forecasts, and change data to produce cost reports and forecasts.
  • Prepare detailed project summaries and support monthly invoicing and reporting.
  • Develop cost reports, dashboards, and cash flow reports as directed.

Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a Senior Project Controller for our Mississauga, Ontario office. This is a new vacant position for which we are actively recruiting. Essential Job Functions:

Lead the development and maintenance of project controls processes, including scope, schedule, estimate, procurement, and contracting alignment for assigned projects.

Oversee the establishment of project coding structures in collaboration with estimating and planning teams, and convert approved estimates into the control budget.

Manage and maintain project data within the cost control database and ensure the accuracy, integrity, and consistency of control information.

Direct the development of engineering progress measurement formats in collaboration with Engineering Leads and maintain progress tracking within the engineering progress measuring system.

Establish, implement, and administer project change control procedures to ensure all changes are properly identified, documented, evaluated, and incorporated into project forecasts and reporting.

Consolidate and analyze commitments, actual costs, forecasts, and change data provided by procurement, construction, planning, engineering, and estimating teams to produce accurate project cost reports and forecasts.

Review and validate progress data from engineering teams and evaluate engineering progress reports for accuracy and completeness.

Prepare detailed project summary reports and coordinate closely with billing specialists to support monthly invoicing and related financial reporting.

Develop and present clear, concise cost reports, dashboards, and graphs, and prepare cash flow reports as directed by the Project Controls Manager.

Perform in-depth variance analysis between budgets, forecasts, and actual results; identify cost and schedule trends; and provide actionable recommendations to project management.

Prepare resource projections, revenue forecasts, audit support reports, cash flow summaries, and utilization reports for Division Management, as directed by the Manager of Project Controls.

Provide mentorship, guidance, and technical oversight to junior project controls staff as required.

Perform additional cost control, forecasting, reporting, and project controls functions as assigned by the Project Controls Manager.

Required Qualifications:
  • University degree in Finance, Mathematics, Accounting, Engineering, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of10+ years of progressive experiencein project controls or cost control within the engineering, construction, or related project-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cost control, forecasting, reporting, and change management functions on complex projects.
  • Advanced proficiency inMS Project, Primavera P6, MS Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong knowledge of computerized project management, cost control, and financial reporting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence project and division-level decision-making.
  • Experience working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams including engineering, procurement, construction, planning, and finance.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit or stand as required and remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the workday.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, including continuous operation of a computer and other standard office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and printers.
  • The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting.
  • Periodic travel may be required and could involve limited exposure to extreme temperatures. Travel may include air travel, during which the employee may be required to remain seated for extended periods.

The salary range for this position is $130,000 to $170,000. Please note that Tetra Tech considers various factors in determining pay, including but not limited to: education, relevant and demonstrated work experience in the role, skills, geographic location, qualifications, certifications, and other competencies relevant to the needs of the business.
