HDR is seeking a Senior Project Architect, Healthcare to join our growing team and help shape the future of healthcare environments that improve health outcomes for communities.

We’re looking for someone who is passionate about healthcare design and inspired by the opportunity to work on meaningful projects across Western Canada, as well as nationally and globally. At HDR, you’ll be part of an integrated health practice that connects you with a global network of healthcare experts—offering you the opportunity to both contribute to and learn from a broader community of thought leaders focused on design excellence and innovation in healthcare.

As a Senior Project Architect, Healthcare, you’ll work on projects of varying scales and stages—from master planning and feasibility studies to construction administration. You’ll engage in a diverse range of healthcare typologies including acute care, ambulatory care, addictions and mental health, and more.

This role is a blend of design leadership and collaboration, where you’ll work across disciplines and market sectors in project delivery, prepare and present design concepts, and demonstrate strong knowledge of healthcare planning through all phases.

You’ll have the opportunity to grow your craft, work independently and collaboratively, take a solutions-based approach, and actively contribute to a culture of mentorship and innovation. As a Healthcare Architect at HDR, you will lead by example and help foster a creative, inclusive, and collaborative studio environment.

In the role of a Senior Project Architect, Healthcare, we'll count on you to:

  • Lead and manage project teams in delivering one or more healthcare-specific projects across BC’s diverse health regions
  • Bring creativity, foresight, and sound professional judgment to anticipate and solve complex challenges throughout all project phases—from strategic planning and feasibility studies to design and delivery
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, navigating healthcare guidelines, technical standards, and regulatory frameworks
  • Ensure that planning and design services meet or exceed professional standards, client expectations, and HDR’s quality and design excellence goals
  • Collaborate with the larger project team (project manager and Principal in charge) to assess project scope and determine appropriate staffing and team composition
  • Represent HDR in client and stakeholder engagements, bringing strong communication and leadership to multi-disciplinary teams
  • Perform other duties as required in support of project success and broader health practice initiatives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Architecture
  • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills
  • Proven experience delivering large-scale healthcare projects in British Columbia, with a solid understanding of local health authority standards and various procurement models (e.g., Alliance, P3, Design-Build, CM@Risk)
  • Demonstrated involvement in business development, including client engagement and leading or contributing to proposal development for healthcare project pursuits
  • Passion for sustainable and wellness-focused design, with experience or interest in LEED, Net Zero, and high-performance healthcare environments
  • WELL Accredited Professional (WELL AP) and/or Evidence-Based Design Accreditation and Certification (EDAC) credentials considered strong assets

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture or closely related field
  • A minimum of 10 years experience
  • Registered Architect
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project Schedule)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in use of Autodesk Revit and familiarity with related tools and processes
  • Demonstrated graphic presentation skills
  • Must have experience in preparation and layout of architectural contract documents and specifications
  • Strong knowledge of codes and good planning skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
