Job description

Senior Project Accountant

Location: Downtown Toronto

Bird, a leader in Canadian construction for over 100 years, is seeking a Senior Project Accountant to join our high-performing project team. This role involves delivering a multi-year, billion-dollar rail infrastructure project, ensuring financial accuracy, compliance, and supporting strategic financial decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead project accounting activities for major infrastructure projects.
  • Support the district finance team with processes including Procore timesheet management.
  • Prepare and submit billings to Rail Connect Partners on a T&M basis, with detailed backup.
  • Maintain billing rate tables, updating for tax changes, WSIB, and merit increases.
  • Oversee time reconciliation, transfers, and support quarterly reporting.
  • Assist with month-end tasks and quarter-end reporting.
  • Manage accounts receivable and cash receipts.
  • Record related journal entries and perform direct cost analysis.
  • Obtain accruals and supporting documents for accurate record-keeping.
  • Prepare and approve journal entries in JDE.
  • Manage invoicing processes, including for Rail Connect Partners and direct costs.
  • Ensure accurate profit & loss reporting and support project closeout.
  • Assist in monthly financial statement preparation and respond to audit inquiries.

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, or relevant experience.
  • CPA designation and construction experience are assets.
  • 5+ years of project accounting experience.
  • Supervisory experience is an asset.
  • Strong understanding of project accounting, management, and delivery formats.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience with complex formulas, XLOOKUP, INDEXMATCH, and arrays is preferred.
  • Experience with Viewpoint Vista and JD Edwards is an asset.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
