Job summary

Wolseley Canada is seeking a Senior Programmer Analyst for the Burlington location to develop, maintain and support critical business applications on the IBM i/AS400 platform. You will work with RPG and COBOL, manage projects through the full SDLC, and collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality solutions that support operations.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of IBM i/AS400 experience, strong analytical skills, and a proactive approach to Go‑Live support and ongoing

Qualifications

• Post‑secondary education in CS/CE or related field with hands-on programming experience.
• 5+ years IBM System i/AS400 RPG/COBOL development (RPG IV/Free, ILE, embedded SQL).
• 4+ years experience in analysing and maintaining COBOL batch and interactive programs on the iSeries.
• Solid understanding of OS/400 environment including DB, Query and Library/File structures.
• Experience with Aldon change management system and ROBOT job scheduler is an asset.
• Knowledge of Web Services on the iSeries is an asset.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills; Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Create technical specifications and perform programming, testing, and implementation to deliver high-quality business information processing systems.
• Develop and maintain applications on IBM i platform.
• Review proposed solutions using current programming practices and determine the most efficient method for developing the desired functionality.
• Responsible for delivery of assigned projects through the entire SDLC on a committed timeline.
• Participate in technical walkthroughs, coding, code reviews, and testing phases (unit, system, QA/UAT).
• Provide support during Go-Live and post-deployment; analyse, debug and support existing software.
• Assist with implementation of new applications and systems software and troubleshoot performance issues.
• Work with team manager to ensure timelines, quality standards, and client requirements are met.
• Perform 24/7 on-call support for critical business applications on a rotating weekly basis.

We're looking for an experienced professional with strong RPG and COBOL programming skills who can manage projects through the full SDLC, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and deliver high-quality solutions that support business operations and drive continuous improvement.**What you will do:*** Create technical specifications and perform programming, testing, and implementation to deliver high-quality business information processing systems.* Develop and maintain applications on IBM i platform.* Review proposed solutions using current programming practices and determine the most efficient method for developing the desired functionality.* Responsible for delivery of assigned projects through the entire SDLC on a committed timeline.* Participate in technical walkthroughs, coding, code reviews, and testing phases (unit, system, QA/UAT).* Provide support during Go-Live and post-deployment.* Analyses, debugs and supports existing application software* Assist with implementation of new applications and systems software, (i.e. upgrades, enhancements, fixes)* Assists with troubleshooting, debugging and inquires related to system functionality and performance* Collaborate closely with the team manager to ensure project timelines, quality standards, and client requirements are met.* Must be able to handle the entire life cycle of a project from requirements gathering to development, unit testing, assisting users with QA testing, UAT, deployment and follow-up support* Work with third parties, to determine problem solutions and corrective actions.* Perform 24/7 on-call support for critical business applications.
