The Role:

As a Senior Product Owner, you will work with clients and development teams to plan and execute artificial intelligence/machine learning software products. Reporting to the Executive Business Partner, you will work closely with customers and their end users, customer subject matter experts and product managers, project delivery managers and developers to define project goals, identify customer needs, write and prioritize product requirements and evaluate commercializable product opportunities. This role is also responsible for building lightweight user experience documentation such as business process maps, personas, user journeys, wireframes and low code/no code prototypes to facilitate understanding and communication of needs and requirements.


Responsibilities relating to Planning and Executing Projects:
  • Develop, manage and prioritize backlogs of features and user stories and collaborate with AI/ML developers to build solutions.
  • Develop and manage product roadmaps and backlogs based on the agreed-upon product vision.
  • Regularly engage with clients to prioritize product backlogs to inform project planning and scoping efforts.
Responsibilities relating to Understanding and Communicating User and Client Needs:
  • Facilitate workshops and interviews to understand goals and pain points and identify opportunities where machine learning may have significant impact.
  • Create business process maps, personas, journeys, wireframes and prototypes.
  • Develop excellent relationships with internal and external stakeholders and ensure insights drive product success.
Responsibilities relating to Identifying and Assessing Commercialization Opportunities:
  • Conduct market research into existing products and solutions.
  • Assist with evaluation of commercializable product opportunities in single customer engagements and work with other AltaML product managers and teams to identify solutions that could scale to many customers.
  • Work with domain experts, existing customers and potential customers in the market to research and document high value AI/ML use case opportunities.
Responsibilities relating to Contributing towards our Product Practice:
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of new processes, templates and standards.
  • Contribute to the development of product vision and strategies.
Required Skills & Experience:
  • A bachelor’s degree in a related field (Business, IT or Engineering).
  • 3 - 5 years of experience in product ownership or management. Other combinations of experience or education may be considered including design, software development, software development management, or consulting.
  • Foundational knowledge of business level artificial intelligence, machine learning, and software development.
  • Superior knowledge of agile methodologies, frameworks and processes.
  • Experience with customer discovery, including workshops and interviews to understand customer goals and pain points and identify solutions.
  • Proven collaboration skills and relationship building abilities, superior verbal and written communication and conflict resolution skills.
  • Experience identifying and mitigating risks.
  • Superior research skills.
Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner, Professional Scrum Product Owner, SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager, or other equivalent certification.
  • Prior experience working in data analytics or AI projects.
  • Experience with organizational change management.
  • Knowledge of user experience design is an asset.
  • Knowledge of one or more of the following industries is an asset: Health, Oil and Gas/Energy, Construction, Insurance, Financial, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Services, or Information Technology.
