Job description
Overview

Our mission is to increase the success rate of small businesses. Traditional banking has been a growth limiter rather than a growth enabler for business owners, and we're changing that. Relay is the all-in-one, collaborative money management platform. We're building for employer SMBs and their finance function, internal and external, and are focused on delivering a human-centric customer experience. Ultimately, we help SMBs be 'on the money'.

You'll join the team responsible for building Relay's new Lending product line to help small businesses bridge cash flow gaps with speed and simplicity. This is a rare opportunity to define how thousands of entrepreneurs access and manage capital, and to lay the foundation for Relay's multi-product lending strategy.

Why this role matters. Many small businesses walk a constant cashflow tightrope, and the average SMB has just 27 days of cash on hand. Theyre juggling payroll, inventory, contractor payments, and everyday expenses, all while trying to carve out resources to invest in growth. We see Lending as a key unlock. Done right, it gives business owners the confidence to cover temporary shortfalls, invest in opportunities, and ultimately build healthier, more profitable companies. Relay's approach is simple: provide fast, transparent access to capital that integrates seamlessly into the way SMBs already manage their money.

Responsibilities

As Senior Product Manager, you'll own the product strategy and roadmap for Lending. In your first year, you'll ship high-impact features to expand our Lending portfolio, partner with relevant ecosystem players, and help Relay start building its own credit muscle. You'll directly shape how SMBs access capital and scale Relay's lending program from launch to hundreds of millions in origination.

  • Launch and iterate on Relay's first lending products ensuring the application, decisioning, and repayment experiences are simple, intuitive, and trustworthy.
  • Improve eligibility and approval rates by driving better integrations with banking, accounting, and payment platforms.
  • Collaborate with Risk, Data, and Operations to ensure lending decisions are fast, fair, and data-driven.
  • Build narratives and roadmaps that align stakeholders, clarify priorities, and inspire confidence, even in the face of ambiguity.
  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, and CX to deliver successful launches and drive adoption among SMB customers.
What You'll Be Doing
  • Own the Lending product area end-to-end: define the vision, set the roadmap, and deliver high-impact outcomes that shape how SMBs access and manage capital.
  • Treat your product like a business: define and track KPIs, monitor performance, and make decisions rooted in data, customer insights, and company goals.
  • Ship high-quality products from ideation to launch: partner closely with design and engineering as part of a leadership trifecta, raising the bar for usability, craft, and polish.
  • Build and tell the story for your product: create clear narratives that inspire leadership, cross-functional partners, and customers; even in ambiguous situations.
  • Stay deeply connected to SMB customers: immerse yourself in their workflows and pain points, ensuring we're solving meaningful problems and delivering products that feel both intuitive and delightful.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally: work with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience teams to ensure smooth go-to-market launches and strong adoption.
  • Partner externally and internally: navigate and evaluate strategic lending partners while working with Relay's risk and data teams to build toward an in-house suite of credit products and long-term underwriting capabilities.
  • Champion product culture at Relay: bring curiosity, ownership, and a high bar for quality that elevates both the Lending product line and the product team as a whole.
Who You Are
  • At least five years of product management experience, with a track record of shipping and owning products at scale
  • Proven ability to take ownership of a product area and influence broader strategy.
  • Strong data competency with the ability to self-serve metrics and write basic SQL queries to support decision making
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills: you bring clarity and inspire conviction across engineering, design, and business stakeholders.
  • Experience working closely with engineering and design as part of a leadership trifecta to deliver polished, high-quality experiences
  • Demonstrated success working cross-functionally with Sales, Marketing, and Customer Experience teams to ensure effective launches and adoption
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments while bringing structure and clarity where needed
  • Experimental & curious in your approach to product management (i.e. tooling, processes etc)
Bonus Points
  • Have experience in fintech or lending products.
  • You\u2019ve joined a company at its early stages and have seen it through scale
  • You have experience working in a fintech startup
  • Are familiar with risk / fraud tools or credit underwriting frameworks.
Benefits and Commitment

  • Comprehensive health benefits: full health benefits from day one, including flexible Health or Wellness Spending Accounts and medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.
  • Flexible vacation and time off: 15 vacation days and 5 flex days, plus an extra week of office closure during end-of-year holidays.
  • Parental leave with top-up: 12 weeks off with 100% salary top-up for all full-time employees, regardless of location.
  • Hybrid work environment: Toronto office twice a week with meals provided.
  • Dog-friendly space: 100% floof-friendly.
