Job summary

Payments Canada is seeking a Senior Product Analyst for the Emerging Payment Products portfolio. You will translate complex product strategy into granular specifications and detailed journey flows, collaborating with UX/UI and engineering to deliver intuitive experiences.

You will manage the product backlog, support testing, and develop briefing notes and visual reports to guide senior leadership. A strong finance/payments background and stakeholder engagement are essential.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics or related discipline.
  • 5–7 years in business analysis, product management or project management in financial services.
  • Experience with payment ecosystems and real-time payments is a strong asset.

What we are looking for

Reporting to the Manager, Emerging Payment Products, the Senior Product Analyst is a key functional expert responsible for the detailed, hands‑on execution and advancement of product initiatives within the Emerging Payment Products portfolio. Operating within a collaborative structure, this position has a dual focus: providing deep business analysis that the product strategy and stakeholder requirements translate into concrete production‑ready deliverables Canada’s Real-time Rail (RTR), while actively driving product management and operational readiness. This position requires a high degree of self‑direction, analytical rigor and the ability to independently manage timelines to secure successful outcomes.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Senior Product Analyst, Emerging Payment Product will include but is not limited to:

Product Development and Business Analysis
  • Translate complex product strategy requirements into granular functional specifications, user story maps and detailed journey flows.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI designers and front‑end engineering to refine page layouts, interaction models and screen flows to ensure an intuitive and efficient user experience.
  • Maintain and manage the product backlog within Jira and Confluence, ensuring user stories are clearly defined, prioritized and estimated.
  • Support testing validation and requirements walk‑throughs to ensure the technical build conforms to the business requirements.
Data Analysis & Reporting
  • Support quantitative and qualitative data analysis produce meaningful insights.
  • Track, and monitor Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and performance dashboards.
  • Develop high‑quality briefing notes, visual reports and executive presentations to translate complex technical/business data into clear recommendations for senior leadership.
Product Strategy Support
  • Support the pre‑discovery and discovery phases of the product lifecycle. This includes conducting market research, gathering internal, member, regulatory and stakeholder insights to identify pain points and developing compelling business cases.
  • Conduct structured market research, regulatory analysis and pain‑point mapping to formulate roadmaps.
  • Provide first‑level analytical input into the product vision and the strategic evolution of the real‑time payment ecosystem.
Relationship Management
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the organization to achieve successful outcomes throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including members, regulators, and providers. Engage independently and at times with senior representatives, with both working‑level and executive internal/external stakeholders.
Product Operations
  • Serve as a single point of contact internally for onboarding.
  • Maintain, update and manage the release of key Go‑to‑Market (GTM) documents, including playbooks, user guides and supporting training materials.
  • Assist with establishing product management discipline by drafting appropriate processes, procedures and workflows.
  • Coordinate stakeholder meetings, including senior management and executive sessions (schedule management, agenda planning, material preparation, minute taking and distribution). Assure structured and traceable document management, including providing file structure, tagging all externally shared documents and managing/storing documents on the shared drive.
Technical Competencies
  • Experience in using various product management and delivery tooling.
  • Excellent presentation development skills.
  • Ability to develop user journey flows and write comprehensive descriptions of requirements.
  • Business acumen related to the Financial Services and payments industry Knowledge of the Canadian Payments Industry in particular the Canadian Payments Clearing and Settlement Systems.
  • Understanding of risk in payments, data analytics and other payment‑related issues.
  • Critical reasoning and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to perform research.
  • Ability to write in a clear and concise fashion.
  • Ability to create impactful presentations.

What you need to be successful
  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Economics or related discipline;
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years of work experience in business analysis, product management, or project management preferably in the financial services environment. Payment knowledge is a significant asset.
  • Demonstrated, hands‑on experience working within or adjacent to the payment’s ecosystem. Knowledge of real‑time payments, clearing systems and ISO 20022 message standards is highly valued.
  • Proven expertise in business requirements development, user journey modeling, and translation of complex business rules into technical specifications.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to assimilate a wide range of qualitative and quantitative data, rapidly assess complex situations and structure solutions for novel matters.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven experience presenting effectively across all levels of an organization.
  • Strong relationship‑building capability, showing high empathy and professionalism when dealing with internal partners and external members, regulators and vendors.
  • Eligibility to successfully complete background checks that will be carried out by Payments Canada, including criminal, credit, identity, employment and education checks.
Salary range

Our target starting rate for this role is $100,300 with flexibility based on your experience and qualifications. The full salary range and benefits package are detailed below.
