Torus Talent is recruiting an experienced Senior Procurement & Contracts Specialist on behalf of an engineering consulting client supporting a mining infrastructure project.
This individual will be responsible for managing procurement and contracting activities associated with the construction of a mine booster pumphouse, including engineered equipment purchases, fabrication contracts, and construction installation packages.
We are looking for a self-sufficient procurement professional who can independently manage the full procurement lifecycle, from preparing tender packages and evaluating commercial proposals through contract awards, vendor coordination, and post-award administration.
The engagement will begin with a short ramp-up period, followed by predominantly full-time hours, before tapering off as the project progresses. There may be opportunities for additional work beyond the initial contract.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and manage Request for Quotation (RFQ) and tender packages for engineered equipment, materials, and fabrication contracts.
- Coordinate with engineering and project teams to incorporate technical specifications, scopes of work, and contractual requirements into procurement packages.
- Manage competitive tendering processes, including vendor communications, bid clarifications, commercial evaluations, and contract award recommendations.
- Prepare purchase orders, contract documentation, and procurement award packages.
- Develop and administer construction tender packages for site installation contracts.
- Evaluate contractor submissions, negotiate commercial terms, and coordinate contract awards.
- Monitor supplier performance, equipment fabrication schedules, delivery milestones, and contractual obligations.
- Coordinate vendor expediting, inspection requirements, and third-party inspection activities.
- Track vendor documentation, including inspection and test plans, technical submissions, and final equipment documentation.
- Support post-award contract administration, including change management, payment milestones, and project closeout documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 7+ years of progressive experience in procurement, purchasing, or contract administration, preferably supporting capital projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing the complete procurement lifecycle, from RFQ preparation through commercial bid evaluation, contract award, and post-award administration.
- Strong background in engineered equipment procurement, fabrication contracts, and industrial materials purchasing.
- Experience preparing and administering construction tender packages and subcontract agreements.
- Previous experience in mining, EPC/EPCM, engineering consulting, industrial construction, oil and gas, utilities, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong commercial acumen, including supplier negotiations, contract terms, bid evaluations, and vendor management.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with engineering, construction, and project management teams.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Duration: Approximately 6 months, with an estimated 1,000 hours of work.
- Schedule: Initial ramp-up followed by largely full-time hours, with a gradual reduction as project activities conclude.
- Location: Flexible remote working arrangements. Occasional visits to the Burnaby office would be beneficial but are not mandatory.
- Travel: No anticipated mine site travel requirements.
- Start: Immediate or as soon as a suitable candidate is available.
- Extension: Potential for additional assignments or longer-term opportunities depending on project requirements and individual capabilities.
