Job summary

Jacobs in Canada is seeking a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join the Alberta team (Calgary or Edmonton). You will lead design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations, guiding multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating with clients.

As the lead, you will oversee design development, equipment selection, specifications, site visits, and construction documentation while applying advanced engineering tools. Hybrid work policy applies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, process, or mechanical engineering.
  • P.Eng license in Alberta.
  • 10+ years of experience in process mechanical design for municipal water/wastewater facilities.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and client engagement.
  • Knowledge of AH, AWWA, hydraulic codes and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process and mechanical engineering teams in design and delivery of municipal water and wastewater plants and pumping stations.
  • Provide technical support and leadership in design development, evaluation, and specifications.
  • Coordinate between disciplines and provide client-facing guidance.
  • Perform condition assessments of facilities and pump station infrastructure.
  • Prepare design reports, construction documents, and cost estimates; participate in reviews and workshops.
  • Support project proposals and marketing with process mechanical scope.

Your impact

We are looking for a Senior Process Mechanical Engineer to join our Alberta (Calgary or Edmonton) team who is excited about solving complex water and wastewater process mechanical related challenges for our clients.

As the lead process mechanical engineer, you will lead process and mechanical engineering teams in the design and delivery of large municipal water and wastewater treatment plants and pumping stations. In your role as lead, you will provide technical support and leadership in the design development, application, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of such engineered systems, both locally and regionally, as well as advocate the use of advanced engineering and automation tools in the design.

You will provide design coordination between multiple engineering disciplines and expert advice to internal and external clients, including performing condition assessments of water and wastewater treatment facilities and pump station infrastructure.

You will continue to gain experience and lead other staff members on all phases of design as well as construction document preparation including mechanical process calculations, design reports, mechanical equipment condition assessment, specifications, drawing development, cost estimation, and participation in client design review meetings/workshops. Your role will also include project tender and construction related tasks typically associated with the role of a consulting engineer including engaging with the supply authorities, responding to requests from contractors and clients, reviewing shop drawings, preparing site instructions and change orders, and regular site visits.

You will also be required to play an active role in project proposal preparation and supporting the Jacobs' marketing team where you will lead the process mechanical scope of work.

Here's what you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, process, or mechanical engineering.
  • Professional Engineer licensed in Alberta.
  • At least 10 years' demonstrated experience in the following process mechanical design, equipment selection, condition assessment, and commissioning of process mechanical infrastructure associated with municipal wastewater facilities and pump stations.
  • Demonstrated experience in providing interdisciplinary leadership, mentorship and development of staff.
  • Experience dealing with local utilities for service connection, design compliance and coordination.
  • Solid knowledge and application of the mechanical requirements and guidelines per Hydraulic Institute, AWWA, provincial water and wastewater codes and standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude, dependable, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide a high quality of work.
  • Forward thinking, eager to learn and teach best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with staff supervision and group operation support is an asset.
  • Experience with ASME, NFPA and Building Codes is an asset.
  • Experience with Design Build Project is an asset
  • Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection system design for commercial, water/wastewater treatment, transportation, office, retail, hospitality, educational, institutional, industrial, and other similar building types is an asset.
