About the Position :

Foursquare is looking for a Senior Privacy Counsel to join our team located in or near one of our office hubs in New York City, Seattle or San Francisco; on a hybrid schedule of T,W,TH in office.

This is a great opportunity to join a high-growth company that is disrupting the geolocation space. In this role you will have an opportunity to drive impact on some of the most important issues in the privacy space at the moment. You will lead Foursquare’s privacy program and work with stakeholders across the entire organization, including key partners in Engineering, Finance, Sales, and Marketing to drive cross-functional alignment on data privacy and protection. This role reports to the General Counsel.

In this role, you’ll :

1. Lead Foursquare’s global privacy program by effectively staying up-to-date on and communicating global privacy laws and regulations and general compliance guidance to stakeholders and working cross-functionally to implement and operationalize the appropriate controls throughout the organization to ensure compliance.
2. Provide legal guidance on product development initiatives relating to new and existing products and features throughout the product development lifecycle.
3. Oversee third party risk management program.
4. Help to develop and conduct general awareness and role-specific privacy training to cross-functional stakeholders.
5. Review and negotiate data processing agreements and other privacy and security related agreements.
6. Partner with the go-to-market team to respond to customer questions and RFIs.
7. Oversee Foursquare’s global compliance program, including Foursquare’s Code of Conduct.
8. Be the point of contact for responding to government requests or inquiries.
9. Manage or oversee other privacy professionals.

What you’ll need :

1. J.D. with 8+ years of legal experience, including at least 5+ years of relevant privacy experience. Membership to a bar, or ability to be in-house registered counsel. Previous in-house experience is strongly preferred (but not required).
2. Extensive knowledge of global privacy laws, including GDPR, Section 5 of the FTC Act, and U.S. state privacy laws, and experience in implementing global privacy and / or compliance programs.
3. Experience working across an entire organization, including product and engineering.
4. Experience in drafting and negotiating data processing agreements.
5. Practical business judgment and ability to qualify risk and problem solve.
6. An understanding of, and passion for, emerging technology and products.
7. Strong work ethic and commitment to the Foursquare Leadership Principles.

Preferred Qualifications :

1. Privacy experience in geolocation, adtech, social media and / or emerging tech industries.
2. Familiarity with or willingness to learn and manage export controls & sanctions compliance.
3. CIPP certification(s).

At Foursquare, we are committed to providing competitive pay and benefits that are in line with industry and market standards. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, and specific office location.

The annual total cash compensation range is $230,000 - $265,000 however actual salaries can vary based on a candidate’s qualifications, skills and competencies, as well as location.

Salary is just one component of Foursquare’s total compensation package, which includes restricted stock units, multiple health insurance options, and a wide range of benefits!
