Job summary

Capital Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Edmonton team. With your expertise in medium and low voltage power, you will provide technical leadership throughout engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning of industrial projects.

You will design and review electrical deliverables, develop work packages, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and mentor designers and engineers.

Qualifications

  • Electrical Engineering degree with PE designation from APEGA (or equivalent).
  • 5+ years of design experience for brownfield/greenfield utility, oil & gas, oil sands, refinery, or industrial projects.
  • Knowledge of API, NFPA, CSA, and IEEE electrical standards and safety practices.
  • Experience with medium and low voltage power distribution equipment and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design and review electrical deliverables, drawings, and bulk material take-offs from estimate to detailed design, per codes and regulations.
  • Develop work packages, respond to RFIs, and resolve technical deviations to specifications.
  • Provide maintenance support and field engineering for brownfield/greenfield projects as needed.
  • Coordinate electrical design activities with Piping, Civil, Mechanical, Process, and Automation disciplines.

Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer | Edmonton, AB

Capital Engineering is seeking an experienced Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Edmonton team. With your experience in medium and low voltage power, you will provide technical expertise throughout all phases of engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning.

What You’ll Do
  • Design and review of electrical project deliverables, generated engineered drawings and bulk material take offs for electrical systems from estimate through to detailed design phase while applying applicable codes and regulations.
  • Develop work packages, answering requests for information, and resolution of technical deviations to engineering specifications.
  • Participate in risk assessments and implement measures to mitigate identified electrical hazards. Also provide technical support for maintenance and troubleshooting of electrical equipment.
  • Coordinate project electrical design activities with other engineering disciplines (Piping, Civil, Mechanical, Process, Automation, etc.).
  • Ensure consistency and integrity of electrical designs throughout project life cycle and review designs for logic, functionality and conformity with relevant codes, regulations and client standard.
  • Development of Material Requisitions, Review of Vendor drawings and Technical Bid Evaluations.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to electrical designers, drafters and engineers (EIT’s).
  • Support projects from site for design and construction support when required.
What We’re Looking For
  • Electrical Engineering degree (or equivalent) with Professional Engineer designation from APEGA (or equivalent Canadian Association).
  • 5+ years of experience in design for brownfield and/or greenfield utility, oil & gas, oil sands, refinery, or industrial projects.
  • Must have knowledge of international and Canadian electrical standards and codes including API, NFPA, CSA, and IEEE. Familiarity with electrical safety regulations and practices.
  • Construction support and/or field engineering for brownfield and/or greenfield utility, oil & gas, oil sands, refinery, or industrial projects would be considered an asset.
  • Experience with medium and low voltage electrical power distribution systems and equipment, including transformers, switchgear, VFDs, motor control centers, and motors.
  • Experience in power system analyses (Load Flow, Short Circuit, Relay Co-ordination, Arc-Flash, Motor Starting) would be an asset but not required.
  • Fluency in both written and spoken English.
  • A self-starter with strong technical, interpersonal, teamwork, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Must be capable of conducting field visits at client’s facilities as required.
  • Willingness to learn and grow in the engineering field.
