Job summary

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering.
• APEGP/PEg registration or eligibility.
• 10+ years of electric utility engineering experience.
• Experience with power-system modeling and analysis.
• Experience creating, reviewing, or validating PDUPs.
• Strong PSS/E knowledge for steady-state and dynamic modeling.
• Knowledge of Alberta’s electricity regulatory framework.
• Strong stakeholder communication and mentoring capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead independent technical reviews and validation of project models used in power-system studies.
• Review PDUPs to ensure model accuracy, consistency, completeness, and compliance with requirements.
• Validate model logic, assumptions, data sources, methodologies, parameterization, and study results.
• Review generator, plant, transmission network, and static/dynamic models.
• Validate line impedances, thermal ratings, transformer parameters, and protection interfaces.
• Assess model convergence, numerical stability, and sensitivity to parameter variations.
• Support development and validation of interconnection study cases.
• Interpret modeling results and communicate implications to teams and market participants.
• Identify and mitigate model-related risks and escalate concerns.
• Establish model-validation frameworks, checklists, and peer-review protocols.
• Serve as SME and resource for model-validation matters.
• Mentor engineers in power-system and transmission-modeling best practices.
• Develop and deliver internal training and supporting documentation.
