Job description

Overview

We are looking for a Senior Power BI Developer who brings not only deep technical expertise, but also the confidence and clarity to lead within the modern analytics landscape. This role goes beyond building dashboards — it’s about shaping the future of how data is consumed, governed, and acted upon in the organization.

You’ll be at the intersection of business strategy, data engineering, and visual storytelling, helping clients turn raw data into actionable insight. You’ll design and deliver scalable solutions that work within complex enterprise environments, integrating with cloud platforms like Azure and AWS, and embedding governance and performance optimization into every layer of your work.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role for someone who thrives on solving hard problems with elegant solutions. You should have a strong command of Power BI’s underlying architecture, and be comfortable navigating everything from dimensional modeling and complex DAX to tenant-level security configuration and report performance tuning.

Just as importantly, you’ll act as a trusted advisor — someone who can engage stakeholders, challenge assumptions, and bring clarity in the face of ambiguity. You’ll lead conversations on best practices, bridge the gap between technical and non-technical audiences, and help foster a data-driven culture by example.

Location: Across Canada (work hours are in MST)

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience building Power BI solutions, including both standard and paginated reports (or SSRS)
  • Advanced proficiency in DAX and SQL, with a strong track record of writing optimized queries for performance at scale
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, particularly dimensional modeling for analytical workloads
  • Strong background in ETL frameworks, OLAP, and relational database design
  • Solid experience integrating Power BI with Azure and AWS data sources
  • Demonstrated skill in designing and implementing Power BI Dataflows, and working with SSAS/AAS models
  • Ability to configure and manage Power BI tenant- and workspace-level security, including Row-Level Security (RLS), in line with governance and compliance standards
  • Proficiency in Power BI tenant administration and familiarity with Power Platform tools like Power Apps and Power Automate is a plus
  • Proven ability to serve as a technical thought partner to business stakeholders — someone who asks the right questions, anticipates roadblocks, and offers strategic insights backed by data
  • Experience navigating client dynamics, managing expectations, and resolving conflicts diplomatically and confidently
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior developers, share best practices, and elevate the technical standards of the team
  • A self-starter who proactively drives progress and brings forward new ideas
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to translate technical details into clear business value for non-technical audiences
  • Comfortable leading discussions with both technical teams and executive stakeholders
