Job summary

Government of Alberta is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor, Engagement in Edmonton to lead major public and stakeholder engagement initiatives and translate feedback into policy insights. You will partner with ministry leaders to design engagement strategies and ensure diverse perspectives inform decisions.

The role requires a university degree in a related field and four years of progressively responsible experience, with a focus on strategic advisory support and cross‑government collaboration.

Qualifications

  • University graduation in a related field (e.g: Public Policy, Social Sciences, Business, Communications, Journalism or other relevant field) plus four (4) years progressively responsible experience or equivalent.
  • Equivalencies: Directly-related experience or education considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of public and stakeholder engagement initiatives to support policy, legislative, and program development priorities across Primary and Preventative Health Services.
  • Develop and provide strategic advice on the development of engagement strategies, and approaches to ensure participation is meaningful and diverse perspectives are incorporated into decision-making.
  • Analyse stakeholder feedback, identify emerging issues, risks, and opportunities, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for senior management and executive decision-makers.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with internal partners, external stakeholders, and cross-government representatives to advance ministry objectives and foster consensus on complex issues.
  • Provide strategic advice and support to leaders on engagement activities, policy considerations, and organizational priorities in a dynamic and evolving environment.
  • Develop tools and resources, including training, to support consistent approaches to engagement across the ministry.
  • Adapt engagement approaches, priorities, and deliverables in response to changing policy directions, emerging issues, and competing timelines while maintaining high-quality outcomes.

As a Senior Policy Advisor, Engagement, you'll be at the centre of high-profile engagement and consultation initiatives across the Ministry of Primary and Preventative Health Services, partnering with ministry leaders and program areas, to design and deliver innovative engagement with ministry partners, other government ministries, stakeholders, and Albertans, deliver actionable insights, and support critical policy and legislative priorities in a fast-paced and evolving environment.

Main scope of duties for the role include:

Preferences:

  • Demonstrated agility and ability to pivot in response to emerging priorities, tight timelines, and shifting project demands.
  • Experience with project management, planning, delivering, and reporting on public and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills both within and external to a team environment.Ability to work independently with minimal direction to complete tasks and provide strategic advice.

Term of Employment: Temporary (to August 31, 2027), Full-time position.

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Location: Telus House at ATB Place South Tower, Edmonton, Alberta.
