Job summary

Systemex Group is seeking a Senior PLC Programmer to design, develop, test, and maintain high-performing industrial control systems for our Automation division in Laval, Quebec. You will work with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron platforms, develop ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks, and collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to deliver turnkey automation projects.

French is mandatory; English is also required for internal and external communication.

Qualifications

  • Degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on PLC programming and industrial automation experience.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI software, and instrumentation; robotics is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and optimize PLC and HMI programs for automation systems.
  • Program in ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks with clear documentation.
  • Integrate PLC systems with HMIs, sensors, actuators, and industrial protocols.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams for seamless integration.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, update, and improve existing control systems to minimize downtime.
  • Participate in project commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Lead or support automation projects from design through completion with budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70E, ISO, IEC standards; mentor junior engineers.

About The Role

We are looking for a Senior PLC Programmer to design, develop, test, and maintain high-performing industrial control systems. This key role combines PLC/HMI programming, system integration, commissioning, troubleshooting, documentation, safety compliance, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to continuously improve automation solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, and optimize PLC and HMI programs for automation systems using platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Omron, ABB, or others as required.
  • Program in ladder logic, structured text, and function blocks while producing clear documentation, including functional specifications, logic flow diagrams, and operating manuals.
  • Integrate PLC systems with HMIs, sensors, actuators, and other devices, as well as industrial communication protocols such as Modbus, Profibus, EtherNet/IP, or OPC-UA.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams to ensure seamless integration of automation systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, update, and improve existing control systems to minimize downtime and prevent recurring issues.
  • Participate in project commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, and on-site troubleshooting.
  • Lead or support automation projects from design through completion, including schedules, project scopes, and budgets.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial safety standards such as NFPA 70E, ISO, or IEC, and mentor less experienced team members.
What We’re Looking For
  • Degree in electrical engineering, automation, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • More than 8 years of hands‑on experience in PLC programming and industrial automation, with proficiency in at least two major PLC platforms such as Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, or Omron.
  • Knowledge of SCADA systems, HMI software, industrial control systems, and instrumentation; robotic integration experience is an asset.
  • Critical thinking, versatility, strong communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in French is mandatory; proficiency in English is also required to communicate with internal clients and partners located outside Quebec.
