Summary : We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer, Logging to join our Security team and help establish our new Logging Engineering team. This role focuses on scalable logging architectures, robust data pipelines, and security-focused logging automation at scale. You will lead the technical architecture for our logging infrastructure and impact security observability.
This role is available to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec). If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office minimum two days per week for our Anchor Days.
What your team does
We are building a new Logging Engineering team to design and build the logging platform architecture from the ground up. You will be a technical leader and advisor for security logging, with a strong data engineering background and experience building enterprise-scale logging platforms.
What you will work on
- Design and architect scalable logging infrastructure including data lakes, security lakes, and multi-tier storage strategies
- Build and optimize high-throughput log ingestion pipelines using streaming technologies and cloud-native services
- Architect ELK stack deployments, OpenSearch clusters, and hybrid cloud / on-premises logging solutions
- Design data retention, lifecycle management, and cost optimization strategies for petabyte-scale log storage
- Partner with the security team lead to develop the logging platform roadmap and technical vision
- Build Infrastructure as Code for logging infrastructure provisioning, scaling, and disaster recovery
- Optimize query performance across multiple data stores and implement efficient data partitioning strategies
- Design API and integration layers for log data access, enabling self-service analytics and detection engineering
- Lead capacity planning, performance tuning, and architectural decisions for the logging platform
- Mentor engineering team members on logging best practices, data architecture, and platform operations
What you bring
- Proven Senior-level expertise building enterprise-scale logging and data ingestion systems, typically gained over 5+ years of relevant experience
- Data architecture experience designing data lakes, lake houses, and multi-tier storage architectures for log data
- ELK stack mastery including Elasticsearch cluster design, Logstash pipeline optimization, and Kibana customization
- Streaming data expertise with Apache Kafka, Amazon Kinesis, AWS Glue, Azure Event Hubs, or similar real-time ingestion platforms
- Cloud storage architecture experience with AWS S3, Azure Data Lake, GCS, and intelligent data tiering strategies
- Performance optimization skills for high-volume data ingestion, indexing strategies, and query optimization
- Infrastructure as Code proficiency with Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar for logging infrastructure automation
- Data pipeline engineering experience with Apache Spark, Flink, or cloud-native data processing services
- API and integration design for enabling secure access to log data across multiple consumer applications
- Monitoring and observability expertise for logging platform health, performance metrics, and capacity planning
Nice to have
- Security-focused logging experience with SIEM integration, security data lakes, and compliance-driven data retention
- Multi-cloud logging architecture designing consistent logging platforms across AWS, Azure, and GCP
- Open source contributions to Elasticsearch, Logstash, Apache Kafka, or other logging ecosystem projects
- Data governance expertise implementing data classification, privacy controls, and regulatory compliance for log data
- Advanced analytics platforms experience with Splunk Enterprise, Sumo Logic, or other enterprise logging platforms
- Container and Kubernetes logging architecture for cloud-native application log collection and processing
- Cost optimization expertise for large-scale data storage, implementing intelligent archiving and data lifecycle policies
- Technical leadership experience mentoring teams, setting architectural standards, and driving technical strategy
- Programming proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or Scala for custom logging pipeline development and automation

The full salary range
- The full salary range for this role is $146,200 to $172,000 to $197,800 CAD. Please note salary bands may differ based on location and local currency. Additionally, benefit offerings may differ depending on the employee's location.
- We aim to hire all candidates between the minimum and the midpoint of the full salary range. We reserve the midpoint to the maximum of the salary band for internal employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on individual experience and skillset of the candidate. Please note there are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency.
