Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Senior Planner/Scheduler for its Program Management group in Markham, ON. You will develop, analyze, and manage schedules for large capital programs, with a focus on transit, power, water, or wastewater infrastructure.

Ideal candidates bring 8+ years of planning experience plus advanced Primavera P6 skills and a proven track record in schedule governance and leadership across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of planning and scheduling experience on major capital infrastructure projects.
  • Transit/Transportation experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency in Primavera P6 and CPM scheduling methodologies.
  • Ability to lead schedule workshops and present to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead owner for project and program schedules, coordinating inputs, reviews, and approvals.
  • Develop and oversee complex schedules through design, procurement, construction, and closeout.
  • Provide schedule leadership to project teams, clients, and contractors.
  • Review contractor schedules and integrate them into master plans.
  • Monitor progress and update schedules based on performance and forecast.
  • Identify risks, develop mitigation and recovery plans, and perform what-if analyses.
  • Present schedule forecasts and key metrics to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior/intermediate schedulers and ensure quality standards.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Planner/Scheduler within our Program Management group with extensive experience developing, managing, and analyzing schedules for large, complex capital programs, preferably within mass transit, power, water, or wastewater infrastructure. The successful candidate will possess 8+ years of planning and scheduling experience, advanced proficiency in Primavera P6, and strong expertise in schedule development, risk analysis, performance reporting, and schedule governance.

This is a key leadership role requiring excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, the ability to influence project teams and clients, and a proven track record of supporting the successful delivery of major capital infrastructure projects.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as the lead owner and subject matter expert for project and program schedules, coordinating all inputs, reviews, updates, and approvals required to maintain accurate and reliable schedules.
  • Develop, maintain, and oversee complex project and program schedules through planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project closeout phases.
  • Lead schedule development efforts in Primavera P6, including: - Activity sequencing and duration development
  • Schedule logic and float management
  • Resource loading and workforce planning
  • Critical path identification and analysis
  • Provide schedule leadership and guidance to project teams, clients, contractors, consultants, and junior schedulers.
  • Establish and maintain project scheduling standards, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Review, analyze, and integrate contractor, vendor, and subconsultant schedules into master project and program schedules.
  • Monitor project progress and ensure schedules are updated regularly based on actual performance and forecasted activities.
  • Perform schedule health checks, quality reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Identify schedule risks, constraints, trends, and opportunities and develop mitigation and recovery plans.
  • Conduct what-if analyses, delay analysis, schedule impact assessments, and recovery scheduling exercises.
  • Identify deviations from baseline schedules and communicate impacts to project teams and stakeholders.
  • Develop strategies to mitigate delays, recover lost time, and accelerate project delivery where required.
  • Collaborate with project controls teams to integrate scheduling with cost, risk, and performance reporting functions.
  • Present schedule performance, forecasts, and key metrics to project leadership, clients, and senior stakeholders.
  • Prepare executive-level schedule reports, dashboards, and updates.
  • Mentor and support the development of junior and intermediate scheduling professionals.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Advanced proficiency with Primavera P6 and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project.
  • Extensive experience supporting large capital infrastructure projects, preferably within transit and transportation programs.
  • Advanced understanding of CPM scheduling methodologies, schedule forecasting, and schedule risk analysis.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and project delivery processes.
  • Experience developing and managing program-level and multi-project schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to review, validate, and challenge contractor and consultant schedules.
  • Ability to lead schedule workshops and facilitate discussions with multidisciplinary teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate schedule impacts and recommend solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, direct, review, and present schedule information to project teams and senior leadership.
  • Strong understanding of project controls principles and industry scheduling standards.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently while providing leadership and technical guidance to others.
  • Strong quality assurance and quality control capabilities.
  • Ability to exercise sound professional judgment and make timely decisions in a fast-paced project environment.
Education and Experience
  • Technical degree, diploma, or certificate in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Controls, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 8 years of planning and scheduling experience supporting major capital infrastructure projects.
  • Transit/Transportation experience is required.
  • Experience supporting large-scale, multi-disciplinary infrastructure programs is strongly preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range
  • Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$102,600.00 - $153,900.00 Annually

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
