Description

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Manager, Planning Administration and Zoning, this role is responsible for managing and delivering the Town’s new Comprehensive Zoning By-law, independently providing professional planning recommendations related to the Town’s Zoning By-law review project, and overseeing zoning reviews associated with development applications. You will lead the review and coordination of zoning matters and play a key role in the implementation and updates to the Zoning By-law. You will be responsible for guiding internal staff, Council, and the public on zoning and planning matters. As the Senior Planner, Development (Zoning), you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Lead and coordinate the Town’s Comprehensive Zoning By-law review project.
  • Oversee zoning reviews associated with development applications.
  • Provide guidance and interpretation of the Zoning By-law.
  • Prepare reports and attend Committee of Adjustment meetings.
  • Lead the Zoning By-law digitization project to integrate mapping into GIS.
  • Coordinate all By-law Review Committee Meetings.
  • Represent the Town at local Planning Appeal Tribunal hearings and other legal tribunals.
  • Assist in budget documentation related to the Zoning By-law project.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as required.

The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional with a post-secondary degree in Planning or a closely related field. Our ideal candidate has 5-7 years of experience in municipal planning, with a strong background in zoning and land use policy. Membership with the Canadian Institute of Planners is required.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in zoning by-laws, land use planning, and the ability to provide clear guidance to various stakeholders. We are seeking an individual with superior communication skills, a demonstrated ability to manage complex projects, and excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

The successful candidate for Senior Planner, Development (Zoning) will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the office, remotely, and after hours (as required).

This position offers an hourly rate range of $63.25 to $79.06 based on a 35-hour work week, plus a competitive benefits package.

Satisfactory passing of a criminal record check and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
